Alex double checked his equipment, before walking out. He had to find the location, the borders was quite a vague area to search by, but it ought to be enough. Just before Alex left, he turned around to look at the spot on the floor, which he had kissed Elle on.
It was so empty. It was too quiet. Alex's eyes wandered over to the spot where Chrissy usually took, her sleeping bag still in a mess on the side. Her equipment was in a disorderly mess, meaning that she had intended to come back and pack it.
Kurt's spot was where there was a lot of sticks in a pile by his sleeping bag. He enjoyed drawing on the dusty ground with those sticks. Normally, he would sit there, either drawing, sharpening or cleaning his weapons or talking to Chrissy. But now? Who even knew whether he was alive or dead?
Sam's suit and tie was still neatly folded over his sleeping bag, along with the pair of sunglasses he liked. Alex saw a packet of cigarettes sticking out from under his sleeping bag, his horrible habit. Alex wondered how he would cope without his daily smoke.
In the corner, was something that had caught his eye. A flower was there, almost completely brown and wilted. Alex did not have to go any closer to remember that it was the flower he had given to Elle.
All the more reason to get moving.
Alex gave Pinecone a light kiss on the top of her furry head. He wondered if he would ever return back here. After all, he was going for the same direction that the other four did. It wouldn't surprise him if he died along the way as well.
" You better take care of yourself. Daddy is going to go find Mommy and the others. If we don't come back, you're on your own, okay?" Alex asked Pinecone, giving it a gentle scratch between its ears.
The white kitten meowed pitifully as Alex stood up, getting ready go to leave. Pinecone jumped onto Alex's pant leg, holding on tightly. As if it understood that Alex was going, and not expecting himself to come back.
All of the sudden, Pinecone let go, running away from Alex. He was surprised, but even more surprised when it pulled out something hidden deep inside Chrissy's sleeping bag.
" What did you find, girl?" Alex mumbled, walking over and bending down, taking the object from Pinecone's jaws.
Alex sat down on the floor as he looked through it. The weapons was weighing him down. Opening it, he saw complicated numbers scribbled all over the page, along with the names of towns and cities.
Pinecone watched him with her wide eyes, waiting for him to say something. Alex glanced at his pet. For an animal that was not meant to be smart, it was pretty intelligent.
Chrissy had said it once, many numbers may mean a code or phone numbers. Alex had no idea what a phone number looked like, but that was what he hoped this string of numbers was. Figuring out a code was not his forte.
" More food for you when I get back," Alex whispered to Pinecone, giving his kitten a tight hug before settling her down again, racing out of the lair.

Alex was at the phone booth in Sam's gambling den. He found a small container of coins in his office as well. The staff saw Alex enter, but did not ask of Sam or why as to he was there. An Assassins motives should never be questioned, the more you knew, the more in danger you were.
He slotted a coin in, ringing up one of the first numbers. There were so many towns written down, Texas, Manhattan. He could not recall which was the nearest, but just randomly chose one number.
