Alex begun setting up the sniper gun which was only saved for emergencies up on the roof on another building. Elle was with him, partners for life, arguing or cold wars could not affect the compatibility they had whenever they were on the battlefield.
He put the huge sniper gun together, fumbling with the separate pieces. Elle held on to her shotgun. Her duty was to protect the sniper, because when Alex was focused on shooting soldiers on the street, if a soldier sneaked up behind him, he had a high chance of not noticing them.
The citizens in their town had triggered an attack on the soldiers, and right now, the ground below was a mess of tear gas and the occasional grenade. The citizens were losing badly.
From where he was on the roof, Alex saw a purple head of hair, run into the cover of another building, a rifle in her hands. Sam and Kurt were on another building, with their last sniper gun. Chrissy volunteered to enter the battlefield itself, giving her the highest risk of death.
Alex aimed at a cocky British soldier, who was bayoneting American man after American, as if it was some sort of fun game for him. Without much hesitation, he pulled the trigger. The man fell, and the citizens and soldiers looked up in his direction. Alex leaped away from the sniper gun, as a whole hail of bullets started flying in his direction.
Then, another blast from a sniper gun was set off. Sam and Kurt.
The bullets in his direction stopped, the guns trained on somewhere else. Someone from below shouted gleefully ' It's the Assassins!' Alex felt himself smile as he resumed his post behind the sniper gun, firing it again. He saw Chrissy darting around the angered citizens, with her rifle. They let her pass when she needed to, and when a soldier ran at her, they wove in his path.
Alex's faith in humanity was slightly restored.
Elle fired her gun. He turned around to look. One British soldier was lying on the ground, holding onto his chest, where blood was pouring out from. Elle put her gun aside, taking a knife to pierce through the thin layer of skin at his throat. Blood was everywhere, and life was in Elle's eyes.
" You've got blood on your face," Alex told her.
She reached up, brushing it away. Elle picked up her gun, waiting at the doorway of the staircase, in case another British soldier came up. With her hair tied back like it was now, and her tight black clothes she was back into being her old, strong self.
Alex went back to his sniper gun, moving it towards a soldier, who was trying to shoot at Chrissy. She was hiding behind a pillar, waiting for the right time to shoot back. Before he went out of range, Alex squeezed the trigger. The soldier fell dead, blood pouring out of his skull onto the pavement.
Chrissy ran out from behind the pillar, hiding behind another one. A tear gas was thrown in her direction. She covered her eyes with her sleeve, running away from there.
The people were throwing everything they could get their hands on at the soldiers. Rocks, branches, dustbins all flew through the air. Bullets flew back in response.
" Alex! " Elle shouted suddenly, grabbing him and pulling him to one side. He accidentally grabbed ahold of his sniper gun as he fell back, making sure to hold on to it tight in case it fell and smashed itself.
There was a grenade up on the roof with them. Elle ran forward, picking it up in her hand before tossing it over the edge of the roof. It exploded in a huge burst of flames in the air, Elle ducked down to avoid the flying pieces of grenade.
Alex was still crouched in the corner of the roof in shock.
" You could have gotten yourself killed!" Alex said after a full drawn moment of silence passed between them.
