Elle wrapped a gauze around Alex's neck trying to hope that this was the right way to deal with a wound on the neck. Not that she would know. Almost everything they knew was all by books that Chrissy had stolen from this place called a 'library'. Alex was bleeding all over the place, and all Elle could do was to pray that those books did not lie to them.
They were lucky to have escaped from there tonight. The sniper must have seen them, or guessed where they were exactly to have gotten a shot on Alex like that. It was too close to comfort. If Alex had been kneeling to the left a little bit more, then he would have a chance of not even being able to come back home. Elle could not believe that he had been so fortunate.
Pinecone had already been sent out to Chrissy's home, telling her about the attack and the bullet wound that Alex had received. Hopefully, Chrissy would have known how to properly deal with it, and if needed to, could come over and help Elle with Alex. The other Assassins had to be careful as well. There were only five of them, they could not afford to lose one.
" The bullet almost got you, " Elle said, clearly stating the obvious in order to try and ease the solemn atmosphere, sitting down opposite him, while packing the stuff back inside the first aid kit. She did not want to think about how close Alex had been to death. He was her killing buddy, and she had no idea what she would do without him working together with her.
Alex raised his hand to lightly touch the gauze gingerly. God, it hurt so bad. He dare not try and think how bad a spot on gun shot must feel like. The first official injury to the Assassins. Not that Alex was ashamed. An accident was bound to happen someday.
" We let our guard down, we didn't know there was a sniper, " Alex reasoned with both his slight guilt and Alex, hands lightly brushing the cold metallic gun in his hands. For some reason, weapons calmed him down. Elle looked down at his slight quivering hands, but chose to not anything. She was pretty shaken herself. Dealing with guns all these years, most of the time they were the ones who planted the metal bullets into other people, not the other way around. They might have been a little complacent earlier, not doing proper checks for people on the top of the buildings.
Elle did not know how to help him deal with his pain, she could not even relate or understand how it felt like to be shot. Not that she wanted to know the feeling. But it was just that, she had no idea how to help him at all. Alex was now looking pretty pale, and his blood was slowly still oozing out from the bullet nick. She went to sit beside him on the couch, hoping that her presence would distract him from the pain slightly.
" We did not know that they were waiting for us to come. Not that they really were, we just haven't dealt with heavy weapons from the opponents," Elle added a little reluctantly, running a comb through her blond hair as she released it from her ponytail. She did not like the thought of the Assassins lacking in experience with this mission, but some things had to be said and admitted, despite how ugly it sounded to their ears. They were not ready for an enemy that was not entirely dumb or stupid.
Alex took off his shirt, the black fabric now turning dark brown at the top, due to his blood which had flowed out from his bullet wound. Elle automatically took the dirtied shirt from him, to place in the wash basket that they had in their house. They had to visit the river soon, wash their clothes, utensils and other stuff. Maybe even try to give Pinecone a much needed bath. And of course, the most important thing, get clean potable water.
" Thanks Elle, you're the best," Alex said, before kicking his feet up on the small stool in front of him. Elle looked at the bullet wound in his neck, leaning back on the couch as well. She hoped that the bullet had not sliced through any important veins in Alex's neck. It seemed to have mostly skimmed his skin, but she was aware that a lot of important veins resided in the neck. Tearing open one could be fatal. He was losing quite a large amount of blood, and honestly, Elle did not know if a simple bandage was going to help much.
