Obama was freaking efficient. He was already in the midst of rebuilding the huge country. Alex could finally out down all his weapons and relax, while proper medical care was given to everyone.

It had been three months since that night. And some things had changed. Alex and Elle were supposed to go to report to work at the army base next month, to train up the next batch of servicemen.

Sam and Kurt were busy as politicians. And they had apparently came out of the closet to one another, and was in a perfect relationship. Chrissy, on the other hand, was not doing so well.

She had never really went out of her new home after losing Daniel. Her hair slowly changed back to brown, for she no longer died her hair purple. She was depressed and upset. Nothing could repair her again.

Alex and Elle were trying to do everything they could for her. But there was only that much they could do. She had been given an army job, like the two of them, and threw herself into her work. It was extremely unhealthy, but Alex and Elle could only look on with concern.

Elle was currently cooking them some lunch. Finally, there was no longer a need to kill food themselves. Obama had gotten the shipping back into action, so food from other countries came over to help their food crisis.

Pinecone was lazying by the fireplace with her new buddy, Hazelnut. The dog's owner was found to be one of those left behind by them in the British because they had not managed to get their goggles over their eyes. So, Alex and Elle decided to take it in, and care for it.

" Alex? Could I discuss something with you? " Elle asked, poking her head out from the doorway of the kitchen.

Alex put down his newspaper, turning to look at her. There was a strained tone in her voice, and life now was really good. He had completely no idea what she was going to talk to him about, and was extremely fearful. Elle hardly ever needed to 'talk'.

" What is it?" Alex questioned, patting the seat next to him on their couch.

She walked over and sat down. Alex noticed that she was breathing really fast. Whatever she had wanted to say was quite crucial, and worried her. Alex tried to go through the possibilities of what she needed to say, but found nothing.

" Alex, I'm not taking up the job next month. I'm delaying it, " Elle finally told him. Her voice was soft and slightly shaky. Alex put his arm around her shoulders, in hope to relax her, but she just shook him off.

He frowned. Was there a catch to all of this?

" I'm going to travel the world, with the money that they had given us as reward," Elle continued, now not even able to look at him in the eye.

Alex crossed his legs. She sounded so upset, but he had no idea why. Obama had told them that if they needed a longer break, they could simply just inform him. Travelling the world and seeing things sounded like a good way to unwind.

" Going around the globe sounds good, I think it's a good way to think, you know? " Alex paused, trying to read her expression, " Wait, Ella, what's the catch?"

She fiddled a little with the hem of her shirt, looking away. Alex saw tears pool in her eyes, but had no idea why. Elle swiftly wiped it away.

" Alex, I'm thinking of going alone."

He looked at her. Alex opened his mouth to say something, but closed it again. He had no idea what to say to her.

They had been partners since they were three years old! Now, thirteen years later, she wanted them to split up. And it seemed as if she had already made up her mind about it.

" What the hell Elle?" Alex finally muttered, jumping to his feet. He had no idea how to react, this was crazy. Hazelnut looked up in surprise, giving a loud bark.

Alex could not tell if Elle was actually being serious. She looked so serious, but then why would she even consider travelling the world alone? It was crazy to even think of. Alex being alone? Not something he was ever used to.

" At the same time, I'm breaking up with you, " Elle stated, this time looking up and meeting his terrified gaze.

Alex was losing her. All of her. Her friendship, their relationship. Everything. She was slipping through his fingers, she wanted to fall away from him, did not want to hold on to him. Alex could do nothing.

" Can you at least tell me what I did wrong? I thought we were happy together? " Alex questioned, running a frustrated hand through his hair. Pinecone got up and ran its way to Elle, climbing up the couch.

She picked up the kitten, her hands softly brushing its fur. Her first tear fell. Alex had no idea what she was thinking. Obviously, she was upset over her own decisions, but somehow was still keen to go on with it. It was crazy. Either way, it seemed like she was going to be unable to be happy.

" It's because of Chrissy. She showed me how painful it was to love, and fall apart. I don't want to end up like her," Elle explained.

She was looking around the house, almost as if she was trying to memorise every single detail. Alex was almost frustrated out of his mind. The war was over, he was not going to die. And he had no intention of hurting or leaving her. Did she not trust him?

Alex saw too, the dangers of falling in love. He was afraid of it too, but he was determined to go on with this relationship. He had no wanted to give her up. All these times, and years, that they had shared with one another. Did it all mean nothing?

When they had made their first kill, and stole their food, working together at a young age of three? What about him telling her that he loved her?

All of this time, Alex was so sure that they were going to spend the rest of their lives with one another, he had no idea what to do. She had promised him, before they set out on their final few missions, that she was going to marry him. All of that was empty promises.

Adopting Pinecone was a joined decision. Was she going to just leave her kitten behind, to fly around the world? She made it feel like leaving was such an easy task, as if there were no precious memories for her to hold on to. Alex could still remember what their first kiss felt like.

They depended on another with their lives. They had never tried to be apart, and were by each other's sides every second possible. Alex felt like crying, but held the tears in.

" When are you leaving? " Alex asked, sitting back down on the couch. He felt sick.

" Tonight."
