" Hello, hello, testing. Can you hear me, Daniel?" Alex asked, into the microphone.
It was inevitable. The day had come. The five young people, Alex, Elle, Sam, Mitch and Scott were all alone in the headquarters. All of the rest had gone out to fulfill their tasks.
Sam was seated in front of the surveillance cameras, frowning as he observed the British soldiers. Alex saw Odin, his towering and broad frame strolling through the corridors with a piece of bread between his fingers.
All was well.
For now.
Scott and Mitch were seated nearby, just anxiously watching the cameras. Outside, all was dark. It was midnight. And Chrissy, Daniel and Will had started to lead their teams outside.
" Yeah, I can hear you. Some of the citizens have joined us as well," Chrissy responded, her voice sounded tense, even through the crackly speaker.
" Daniel. How are things?" Elle asked. She was already beginning to feel the pressure on her shoulders. This was crazy. To kill Odin and George once and for all. All these lives in her hands.
There was a slight pause. Everyone in the room fell silent, waiting for the response. Scott was practically praying for a reply.
" Good, good. And I can see Will from here. No alarms are sounded everything is okay," Daniel finally reassured them.
Alex could not shake the nagging feeling away. He was so nervous. Taking a deep breath, he tried to calm himself down. He had been chosen to do this, he had to be responsible and finish the job through.
This was insane to think of. If they succeeded, America could slowly build itself back up. Everything would be okay again. This was their chance. And they only had one shot at it.
The dogs were supposed to be controlled by front line. Chrissy had gone around to pick up the dogs that the citizens had captured and trained over the past week. Alex closed his eyes. Chrissy deserved a happy ending. Everyone deserved to see a happy America.
Mitch was playing around with his gun, just tossing it around. The British had not evem seemed to realise that there was a whole shit ton of people waiting along their borders, perhaps they would not notice that their cameras were hacked.
The five of them would most likely live.
However, this was going to be the most cruel night of their lives. If their friends faced any danger, or took fatal hits, they would be able to see it. The cameras showed everything. They would see them get harmed, but would not be able to do anything about it.
The feeling of imminent helplessness bothered Sam a lot. Kurt was out there. And how could he have not said those last words he had always wanted to say?
Sam shook his head. When he saw Kurt again, he would tell him. Tell him the secret. For now, he just had to focus on the mission at hand.
" Three leaders? Calling?" Alex said, pressing the button which sent the messages to all three leaders at once, " I'm afraid for bombs or landmines. Take rocks and fling it at the ground. Slow progress I know, but we cannot afford it."
Chrissy, Daniel and Will muttered their agreement. Sam turned on his swivel chair to look at the surveillance cameras showing the garden. True enough, tiny black dots showed that the people were following Alex's instructions. He squinted at the screen, he prayed that Kurt would be alright.
" I need to smoke a little. Would you guys mind?" Sam asked, pulling a cigarette out of his pocket. He was getting so nervous and needed a quick smoke to calm his nerves.
