Chrissy led Force 75 over to the appointed apartment, two stories above the one that the remaining Assassins were staying. Daniel had not spoken much on the way here, just staring at her oddly, as if he had words to say, yet chose not to.
Honestly, the suspense was eating her from the inside. She wanted to know what he was thinking about. It had been so long since she had last seen him, she wanted him to talk to her.
The members of Force 75 stepped into their new apartment. Chrissy grabbed Daniel's hand, stopping him from entering. Tyler Ward, one of Daniel's friends, looked at them with a smile, before shutting them out.
" What is bothering you?" Chrissy asked her boyfriend.
Daniel's eyes darted up at her, before averting themselves to his black boots. Chrissy waited for a while longer, hoping that he would respond. This was not how she expected their reunion to be. She wanted it to be a happy occasion.
" Did you, like, meet some other girl while I was not by you or something? " Chrissy prompted, her hands falling away from his arm. Daniel still kept quiet, running a hand through his hair.
Chrissy nearly choked. Why was he not saying anything? Daniel stared at her, fidgeting with the zip on his jacket.
" You know your friend Alex called me right? Like, he found the notebook of contacts and called me?" Daniel said, his voice barely even above a whisper.
Chrissy nodded. Alex had told her, that he had contacted Force 75 during the period that she was still missing. He had even returned the notebook back to her, explain that Force 75 was attempting to come. She knew.
" He told me that you were missing. And you don't understand how worried I was. And how ashamed of myself I felt," Daniel continued, turning his head away from her, as if he could not bear to even look at her anymore.
Chrissy had no idea where this was going. There was a vague idea as to what was going on at the back of her mind, but she shut it down. She had to wait. Perhaps she was wrong.
" Chriss, I think you deserve somebody more than me, you get what I mean? Someone who can stay by your side and protect you," Daniel elaborated, brown eyes finally raising to look at her, reading her facial expression.
She frowned. Her eyes bore into Daniel's, as if trying to find evidence that he was kidding. Chrissy felt her heart clench, and breathing quicken. She took a deep breath in attempt to calm herself down.
" Daniel Gow, are you breaking up with me?"
His eyes snapped up to look at hers. And Chrissy stepped back, away from him. Daniel looked at her is terror, mouth opening and closing as if trying to find the right words to say.
" No, no! I just think that I am not the right man for you, you get it? I can never be forever be with you, I have to return to Florida. I can't save you," Daniel told her, scratching the back of his neck.
Chrissy's hardened eyes softened instantly. She always knew that despite having Daniel as her important half, she would still have to protect herself all the time. Also, she did not want to be dependant on a boy.
" Dan, you don't have to protect me at all. When I agreed to be your girlfriend, I made it clear that I was not moving to Florida with you. I'm the strongest killer in Los Angeles, " Chrissy reminded him, giving him a weak punch to the shoulder.
Daniel shook his head. He knew that his own girlfriend was possibly even stronger and more talented in the scheming area than he was. But that was besides the point.
" What happened if you hadn't escaped from the British? I hate that I am not being able to save you, let alone be there, you understand? " Daniel said, his voice barely even above a whisper. His hand gently touched her face.
