A Heartbeat

(Alana POV)

I woke late in the day, i'm pretty sure it was going to be lunch soon and I was starving so I got dressed and headed downstairs, I had a small headache but i'm sure some of Julietas food would fix it.

I got downstairs and saw food being brought out to the table while everyone crowded around it, except Luisa, who I assumed had a couple more chores before she could have lunch, but she didn't show up once and I still had a headache even after eating, and I felt a little sick, so I started to head back up to my room when I felt my stomach heave and I sprinted into the room, barely making it to the toilet when I hurled.

I stumbled to the bed as my headache intensified, where was Luisa? she should be home by now, i'll just take a nap, maybe that would ease my pounding headache.

I woke up to Mirabel shaking me

"it's time for dinner, also we've barely seen you all day, are you alright?"

"yeah, yeah i'm fine, just had a headache"

I slowly got up and my headache had gone away a little but I still felt tired, but eating would probably help, so I headed downstairs and saw Luisa still wasn't back, but she probably would be here soon, I shouldn't worry, so I started eating and soon started to help clean up dishes, but Luisa still wasn't home, so I asked Dolores

"do you know where Luisa is? has she been home at all today?"

she got a look of concentration "she's, um, she's really far, not outside encanto, but really far, I-I think she's running from something, maybe towards something? no, from something, she hasn't been home at all today"

"okay, thanks Dolores"

what was she running from? Dolores had just given me more questions than answers but there wasn't anything I could do right now, so I continued doing dishes with Dolores and Agustin and caught Dolores looking at me with a strange look on her face, so I snapped my fingers in front of her eyes and she jumped back, realizing she was staring

"oh, um, sorry Alana, didn't realize I was staring, there was just something strange about..."

she trailed off and didn't elaborate, so I shrugged, wondering what that was about, and finished up dishes before heading to bed, Luisa would be here when I wake up and I shouldn't be worrying, i'm sure whatever situation she was in she could handle.

it was almost midnight and my mind refused to quiet down, I tossed and turned in the bed but to no avail, I simply could not sleep without my big cuddle bug holding me close to her warm body, I shivered at the lack of warmth in the bed, she was basically a human heater which was great cause I had a habit of freezing up in the night.

as I was thinking about her I heard thudding footsteps outside, slowly getting closer, then the door swung open to reveal a tired and bandaged Luisa, and I ran over to wrap her in a hug while questioning her

"what happened? what took so long? are you okay? Dolores said you were running from something, what was it?"

she slowly made her way to the bed and responded in a tired voice "there were some bandits, I had to lead them away from town before I could deal with them, there were just a little more than I first thought, but I dealt with them and i'm alright, i'm sorry for worrying you"

I looked at the bloodstains on her shirt and the bandages on her arms

"it doesn't look like you're alright, did you have anything to eat?"

she looked away guiltily "well, no, not yet, but i'll have some in the morning, I didn't want to wake mama this late for some little cuts, I'll take care of them in the morning, I promise"
