Got inspo for this while reading the encanto centre au by miracles and butterflies on tumblr
————————
She stared down at her opponent, gravel crunched underfoot, the cheering of the crowd fell on deaf ears as the two stared at eachother, the one on the floor looked up, her nose was bleeding and her face was puffy, she had a black eye as well but she didn't look scared or hurt, she looked determined, ready for what was going to inevitably happen and wondering why it was taking so long
"Come on, hit me! finish it, what are you waiting for?"
Her raspy voice was barely heard above the crowd, but the figure looming over her made no moves to end the fight, they called this giant 'the beast' but she didn't really feel like much of one right now, she knew if she won this fight she might be able to get supper tonight, but she couldn't bring herself to take the final swing at her clearly beaten opponent, she was, after all, a child still, part of her mind still believed she could be a good guy.
Number 73 slowly let her arms fall to her sides and stepped away from the girl on the ground, the crowd booed, they wanted to see someone get punched into the floor, not whatever this was, the men that owned her yelled threats at her from the sidelines but the woman on the floor just looked angry at the lack of follow through, she wasn't about to lose to someone who was too weak to finish the job.
She reached up and grabbed 'the beast', then threw her to the floor with all her might, which was quite a feat, then got over her and punched until the referee called a knockout.
73 woke up in her room, if you could even call it that, it was barely big enough for a regular person, nevermind someone of her massive stature, she couldn't even stand up in here.
She knew that the room was just a cage on wheels, draped in tarps to hide what was inside, her owners forbade her from making noise while travelling, and any disobedient action was pushed, harshly.
73 sat up with a groan and gingerly touched her face, the events of the fight were coming back to her, she had dried blood around her nose and mouth and some coming from her forehead, some of her teeth felt loose and the area around her eye was puffing up, her stomach grumbled in hunger but she knew after that last fight she would be lucky to get peach pit, in fact, her owners were probably on their way to dole out her punishment right now.
She flinched backwards as someone staring violently pounding on the walls of her room, then the tarp was thrown aside to reveal a tall thin and sallow looking man, a stream of insults and curses left his mouth, berating her about much money he had lost because of it, his hands frantically scraped at the latch, trying to unlock it so he could punish her faster.
Sometimes it was whipping, sometimes it was burning, sometimes knives were used, but today it was everything, after 73 was hauled and dumped back into her room she layed there for a long time in a heap of bloodied clothes, simply unable to move from the pain, her voice was raw and unusable after yelling and screaming in pain, begging then to stop, saying she was sorry, but they kept going. blood covered her torn clothing, she hoped she would get bandages this time, the fresh wounds picked up loose dust off her floor, as her mind began to slip into a delirious state from the pain she remembered something, something from a long time ago, there were so many colours, shades of orange yellow and red, then there was a green figure, a man? She couldn't tell, but it soon dissolved into someone wearing blue, 73 was sure it was a woman, the memories she had of her, though very few, were filled with warmth and love, 73 desparately clung to the sensation of the ghost fingers on her face, sweeping the hair out of her eyes, she didn't know what the face looked like, and she started to forget what they were shaped like as well, soon 73 wasn't even sure that this blue figure ever existed at all, just a figment of her exhausted and affection starved mind, her memories of before this nightmare began were slowly dissolving, and all she could do was hold on, which was as futile as trying to cling to grains of sand, her dreams were impossible to remember when she woke up, a swirl of colours and the figure in blue standing over her, not threateningly, but lovingly, the words she spoke were heavy and muffled, like she was talking through a wall, but 73 could hear just one word echoing in her mind by the end of it
"Luisa!"
————————-
When 73 woke up she realized they were moving, and just as she sat up the pain from the day before came rushing back, her endless wounds had stopped bleeding, the burns hurt like someone had poured hot sauce on them, Luisa gritted her teeth as a headache gripped her, the throbbing in her skull momentarily distracted her from the aching in the rest of her body, her throat felt raw and scratchy, she needed water, but if they hadn't given her any by now then there was no chance of her getting any until they stopped, and asking would just delay it more.
She meekly hid her head as they passed a border, soon she caught glimpses of outside, the green foliage was turning into a brown dry desert, she probably wouldn't be getting water for a long time now.
73 noticed a small bundle of bandages on the floor and painfully reached to grab them, she slowly and delicately wrapped all of her wounds, as she did she reflected on the strange dream she had earlier, the name 'Luisa' echoed on her mind, was it the name of the woman on her dreams? Was it- was it her own name? 73 couldn't remember her name anymore, the bad men beat it out of her, as they had every other memory of her past life, she couldn't remember how long she'd lived like this, or what age she was taken at, it could've been from birth for all she knew, every memory of her life before had a bittersweet taste to it, any words of reminiscence were met with harsh beatings, she knew from the people around her that she could be anywhere from 14 to 17, based on who she was fighting, the masters often didn't care if she was put up against twenty year olds sometimes at long as they could turn a profit from it.
Luisa wanted to escape, to be free, but this was all she knew, anyone who was caught trying to leave was... well, she didn't exactly know what happened to them but she could hear their screams all night, making it impossible to sleep, the pure terror fueling their voices discouraged anyone else from trying to get away, Luisa had to dispose of the bodies sometimes and the sight of them would forever be ingrained in her mind, her nightmares were filled with them, she silently cried for someone, anyone, to come save her, but knew deep down that this would be the rest of her life, there was no escape for anyone caught in this malicious network of human trapping, you just had to hope you would die painlessly which was unlikely here, silent tears of fear slid down 73s face, she just wished she could go home, wherever it was.
