Back In The Fold

SHE BROKE THE SURFACE of the water, diving under again as she flayed her arms out as a bird. Gliding under the water, she reached the wall turning her body over, and kicked off the wall again heading for the other end of the 100-yard pool.

Alex taps her arm looking at the timer in her hand, and she sighs. A shadow of a stranger stands next to her, she smiles at the man next to her. His black hair was in a tight man bun, looking out at the water.

"How long has she been at this?" Henry asked the blonde crossing his arm, she looked down at her watch. "About thirty minutes." She tells him.

"Has she beaten any of her times?" He wonders, she shakes her head. "She beat her other ones, she is just trying to beat this one," Alex tells him, furrowing his brows.

"What move is it exactly that she is doing?" He asks her, she crosses her arms. "100-yard butterfly, it's one of the moves that cost her Rio," Alex explains to him.

"Her leg, you have surely seen the scar, especially recently." Alex coughs, he rubs the back of his neck. "She told you?" He says. She scoffs at his question shaking her head.

"Kind of obvious when your best friend has a hickey." She clears her throat. "Anyways the injury from when she was fifteen hurt some of her nerves in her leg, but she was able to play through it." She continued.

"But during her championship, it acted up spasming in the water and the judges didn't like that, and it slowed her down," Alex recalls. Josie broke the surface of the water looking up at the two of them, pushing her goggles out of the way.

"Time?" Josie asked her, she sighed looking down at the stopwatch. "51.76," She tells her, she shook her head.

"I'm going again." Josie declares, she grunts pulling herself out of the water. "Jo you need to take a minute," Alex tells her, she shakes her head.

"You need to recharge, you have tried this four times now and you aren't getting any faster." She tells her, water dripping off her as she stands up. "I'm saying as a medical professional and your best friend, you are exhausting yourself."

"Okay, fine I will take five minutes," Josie says, she picks up her blue and orange towel wrapping it around her body, and taking a seat on the bench.

"Thought you had work?" Josie asks Henry. He shrugged sitting on the opposite end of the metal seat.

"I have an afternoon shift, there have been too many calls about the bomber that I'm half tempted not to come into work." He tells her.

"You think the guy is just crying wolf now, waiting till everyone thinks it's all a hoax to start off again?" Alex wonders, pacing with her arms closed.

"I dont really know but it has everyone freaked out," Henry tells her, and she shakes her head. "It's insane." She says, he nods her head.

"I think he got cold feet, and he is just getting off on everyone being afraid," Josie says through her pants, she sprays her water bottle into her mouth. "They all are sadists like that." She grumbled.
