When It Bites Back

IT FELT LIKE AN ETERNITY since she was last at work when in reality it was only five days. She was ready, she couldn't stand being stuck in her house for one more minute. Josie held her first aid back close to herself walking to the donut table.

"Sorry, we didn't get you a cake." Clem's said she shook her hand. "We did save you the maple log," Reese tells her, and she smiles.

"Well, how thoughtful of you two." She remarked picking it up from the box, the only one left after being cleaned out by the crew.  Josie turned around walking to the coffee maker on the counter.

She took a plastic cup, and string the powder creamer with the wood sticks. She turned around on heels to the locker, Levi followed her in, swinging his bag over his shoulders.

"Sorry I should have given this to you before your birthday, it kind of feels weird to do it now." He says, she furrowed her brows opening her locker.

"What are you talking about?" She asks him. He unzipped his backpack showing her a stuffed cactus in a fluffy basket. He had maracas in both his small hands. Levi nodded with a smile.

"Why?" Josie asked him plainly, and he shrugged. "Touch the button." He tells her, and she pushes the red circle.

The toy started to dance to the song Macarena, sped up. Josie smiled shaking her head, he nodded at her reaction.

"It's stupid but I love it," Josie tells him, he nodded happily.  "I will take that." She waved him off, she took her jacket off hooking it up.

"So how are you feeling?" He asks her, and she shrugs. "I'm pretty good I think," Josie says, shoving the cactus toy in her corner.

"Well it's just your back so soon, and from what I've heard from the 118 buck is back but he going power hungry," Levi tells her, and she chuckles. "Spare me the details, I don't want to imagine fire marshal buck." She says.

A loud slam of the locker startled her. Her breath shakes looking over her shoulder, a guy walks out of the room. Josie held her chest as her heart began to race, her vision blurring.

"Jo, are you okay?" Levi wonders, she inhaled for a moment. "Yeah. yeah, I'm good." She says, panting.

A pop outside the room echoed off the wall. Levi grumbled walking to the doorway.

"What the hell?" He exclaimed to the men opening a box, and popping the airbags inside. They cursed him out as he turned around. "Idjits." He says.

His brown eyes widened looking at his friend, her chest heaving up and down as she panted frantically, wheezing trying to catch her breath. Levi got to her side, as she slid her back down the lockers.

"Hey hey look at me, Josie listen to my voice." Levi soothed her placing his hand on her shoulder, she closed her eyes shaking her head. Rocking back and forth against the lockers. "Just breathe."
