Too Close to The Sun

HE WALKED into the firehouse, holding his bag close to himself. Two nights have passed since he last spoke to her, and after last night, almost killed a man with a single punch. There was no chance he was ever gonna let her know.

"Diaz." A monotone voice spoke, and he turned his head looking at the balcony above him. Bobby stood, staring down at him.  "Up here now," Bobby says.

"I was gonna change," Eddie tells him. The man shook his head. "No, we talk first." He says.

Eddie furrowed his brows confused. The sound of feet heavy on metal catches his ears, turning his head and seeing a blonde woman walking downstairs, Lena. He raised a brow.

"What are you doing here?" Eddie asked her, her expression stern. "Just talk to your Captain." She says, turning around to leave.

"Did you tell him?" Eddie questioned, his heart pounding in anger. "You sold me out, huh?" He accused, licking his lips.

"Yeah I thought we were friends." He says. Lena turned around crossing her arms. "What's the name of my cat, huh?" She questions. He shook his head.

"I know about your kid and your dead wife." Lena lists off to him, he exhales heavily. "And your arrest record and the guy you almost killed." His jaw tensed looking anywhere but her.

"So tell me what is the name of my cat?" She asks again, he rubs his face. Shaking his head.

"I have no freaking idea," Eddie answered "Exactly, it's a one-way street with you Diaz," Lena says,

"We're not friends," Lena tells him, glancing over his shoulder. "I know someone who is." She deadpanned turning around, leaving the firehouse.

Eddie turned around, his heart sank seeing an ebony-haired girl, her arms crossed as her eyes remained on him. Dark, filled with betrayal, her chest heaving slowly. His jaw slackened, a loss of words coming out in a whisper.

"Jo." He says breathlessly. Josie shook her head, disappointed. She doesn't respond to him turning around, and walking away without even a second glance his way.

Her heart pounded in anger, getting into the driver's seat. Alex and Levi were silent at the stern look on their friend's face. She had put her hope that he would come clean, but he didn't. She instead had to find out through a call at ten at night that he had been fighting, almost killing someone even after she told him not.

There were things she couldn't compromise on. People digging into her past, hatefulness, lying, and breaking her trust. Loyalty made her who she was, and now she isn't even sure if she could trust him again.

SHE DID EVERYTHING she could to keep him off her mind, restocking the EMT house and taking any call she could. Inventory with Levi was helpful, all she had to do was get him to talk about his marriage. Talking about someone else's relationship was better than talking about whatever she had with Eddie.
