¡Vuelve Pronto!
IT WAS A RATHER bittersweet day for her. She leaves in a day to go to LAX for her flight back to Miami. Going home was not something she had ever thought of in the last year, she was dead set on never stepping into the Sunshine State.
It made sense her final call of the night would be a fire call with the 118, doing triage for the people other firefighters got out of the burning building. Josie wrapped a woman's burnt foot with a bandage, they were overloaded with patients on each cot.
"Your burns aren't deep enough to warrant surgery but you will need to be examined," Josie tells the young woman, she nodded holding her head.
"Are you in pain? Does anything else hurt?" she wondered. "My head, it's just aching, " the woman told her, and she nodded.
"Smoke inhalation will mess with your head. Once you're away from here, it will settle. For now, I can give you an Advil," Josie stated, reaching into her bag and gently leaning the woman's head back, giving her the pill with water.
"Thank you." The woman gulped. Josie nodded, standing up as another EMT took over, her radio on her shoulder buzzing with dispatch. Mayday, Mayday, the building is unstable, and we're calling for immediate evacuation.
Josie looked up to the building entrance to see the crew of firefighters, her crew, carrying out an orange bag with a patient. She tightened her pony jogging over to the tent they led the person to.
"What do we get?!" She asked, getting next to Hen. "Found him on the bathroom floor, must have hit his head." Captain Nash tells her. She took his vital as Hen placed the pads on his chest.
"He passed out as soon we got him out," Eddie added, she nodded at his tidbit. "Sir? Can you hear me?" Hen says. The elderly man slowly woke up seeing both of them.
"Did you get her? Please tell me you got her?" The man breathlessly asked them.
"I got her, I got Gladys! She is okay" Buck proudly proclaimed, holding a cat in his arms and the man raised a brow.
"That's not Gladys, that's Hoover." The man says. "Hoover?" Buck says. Looking at the feline.
"But where's Gladys?" He asked Josie's brow furrowed confused, looking to the rest of them. "Incident at WaterStreet, this is Metro Fire command, please respond." A responder's voice spoke into Bobby's mic.
"Go for Captain Nash!" He stated. "Captain Nash I have a deaf woman, trapped in apartment 10g." She tells them. Josie's eyes widen standing up and looking up at the flaming building. Glass shattering onto them.
"Gladys," Buck repeated looking to his crew. Josie's shuddered at the thought of the woman up there alone, and unable to hear the flames around her. The woman waved her hands out the window screaming for help.
