Ride The Wind

CHIMNEY CLOSED his locker and walked out into the foyer of the firehouse, smirking with his head held up.  He high-fives one of the passing firefighters, having a quick sidebar with them.

"See ya man." He says, waving them off.  "Stop right there!" A voice exclaimed, he did as they ordered, turning around slowly. Josie jogged up to him with a small white box.

"I won't see you till lunch, and this will melt," Josie tells him, and he raises a brow. "Is this a late Christmas gift?" He wonders, she chuckled.

"Did you forget your own birthday?" Josie teased him, and he smiled. He was shocked that she knew.  He took it from her.

"How did you know?" He wondered, flipping the white lid up. A donut with lavender frosting with blueberries. She shrugged. "Hen mentioned it, I just thought you would like something nice." She says.

"That is a limited edition blueberry cake donut from Donut Palace, so savor it." Josie encouraged him, he looked up at her.

"I will try." He laughed softly, she crossed her arms. "This is really sweet Josie, Thank you." He gushed, and her cheeks grew warm at his compliment.

"Aww don't mention it." She says, "Just be happy you working, and your birthday didn't happen during a tsunami." She remarked.

"Ooh sorry about that," Chimney tells her, and she shrugs.  "It could have been worse." She admitted, and he raised a brow.

"Worse than tsunami?" He wondered. "Public humiliation is worse for a birthday." She joked, and he smiled.

"How are you though? I know it's been a while since that all happened." He asked. Josie inhaled deeply, her final doctor's appointment. To assess her insides to make sure she was fine.

"Okay as far as I can tell," Josie says to him, and he nods.  "Well, that's good." He agreed, and she nodded.

"Hate to cut this short but-" The sound of a fire bell rang loudly, echoing off the walls. Her shoulder slumped irritated, "That." She rolled her eyes.

Josie jogged to the alley, climbing into the driver's seat of the ambulance. They followed right behind the fire engine, the sound of their sirens contrasting with each other.  Levi popped his head into the cab of the rig.

"What happened to the belt?" He wondered. She scoffed. "You have Clem's to thank for that one." She tells him.

"What did he do now?" He remarked, besides your cousin, she thought. "He's too big, and he broke it."

"No offense he has more muscles than you do," Alex says, he shrugged. "None taken." He agreed.

"I'm sorry I left you guys, but Montana was amazing." He gushed. "Have you ever gone saddlebacking?" He wondered.
