All In My Head

This chapter is fairly heavy handed at the end, talks of survivors guilt and depression if you are sensitive to this topic I recommend skipping the end chapter.

SOFT SNORES echoed off the walls of the ambulance, Josie with her feet propped up on the wall, a baseball cap covering her eyes as she rested. Sleeping on the job wasn't usually her style, the bags under her eyes were telling a different story though.

"Well, that wasn't on my bingo this year, Castillo asleep on the job." Reese chuckled looking at the opened doors. Alex glared up at him to stop laughing.

Levi walked over, wearing a navy blue shirt with the EMT emblem. He handed Alex a white cup of coffee looking between her and his other friend.

"Is this normal?" He asked sipping his coffee. Alex shook her head. "No, this is her after downing two energy drinks at lunch because she hasn't been sleeping." She briefed him.

"She hasn't? Why?" Levi wondered. "I don't know, there are nights she sneaks outside and just stays there, she thinks I don't know, but I'm a light sleeper," Alex says to him.

"Is it PTSD? Like the tsunami or from being shot?" He questions, and she shrugs. "It could be any of those things, add on top of her denying being hurt about...you know who." She nodded.

"When she feels things she takes it all on and eventually it just weighs her down that she just..doesn't know what to do," Alex explained to him kindly.

"I get that when my first girlfriend broke up with me she reassured me It wasn't my fault but...I still always thought it was." Levi tells her, and she nods. She sucked air through her teeth.

"We should probably wake her up," Alex says to him, and he nods. She held up her fist, he sighed shaking his head and doing the same. They rock paper scissors, Alex winning with rocks him losing with his scissors.

Levi sat his cup down, and walked to the back, stepping into the back. He reached out shaking her lightly with his hand, but she didn't budge.

"Jo." He whispered, she groaned leaning back. He shook her again, but she didn't move again. Josie continued to snore lightly.

He looked over to the buttons on the ambulance wall, he looked to Alex. She shrugged in agreement. He leaned over flipping the switch, and a loud siren played from the rig.

Josie gasped startled, holding her chest. He turned it off, crossing his arms and looking down at her. "What the hell!?" She exclaimed, smacking his thigh.

"She made me do it." Levi defended, she whipped her head glaring at the blonde. "Really?" Josie says, that before she could get more angry at her, the radio buzzed in the front seat.

"Go for Triage." She says it buzzing in her hands. "Triage 120 and 114, you are requested at 2nd street downtown, be advised there is a fire that is deemed hazardous." Dispatch tells them, the siren started in the house.
