Last Christmas

GET IT HIGHER, Alex says with her arms crossed. Henry shook his head, pushing the fairy light higher. She had insisted on his help because he was taller and they needed extra hands for their Christmas decorations.

"Why am I the only one on the ladder?" Henry asks her, she smirks drinking eggnog from her elf mug. "Because some of us aren't hobbit-size, Gandalf." She joked.

"Have you ever watched those movies?" Josie asked walking in with a plastic box, labeled X-Mas decorations. "You fall asleep halfway into it."

"It's three hours long! Who sits for three hours just to watch of bunch of dudes try and find a stupid magic ring?!" She exclaimed, Henry crossed his arms looking at her.

"I like Lord of The Rings." He proclaimed, she shrugged. "Not surprised, nerd." She teased.

"Hello, pot meet kettle," Josie grunted setting the box on the couch. She pulled out a stuffed gator with a Santa hat on, and she smiled walking to the window seil pushing the blinds up setting it in the window.

"I don't know about anyone else I don't feel Jolly this year," Henry comments. Josie nodded her head turning around to face him. "You and me both." she agreed.

"I mean it always feels this way," Alex says, pulling Tensil from the plastic bin.  "It's just ramped up because you know...super messed up stuff." She says, sipping loudly.

"You mean like me getting shot." Josie deadpanned, she choked on her drink. "If I don't say it, keep giving it power." She explains.

"Dont forget the messed up thirty birthday," Henry says, she pointed at him in agreement. "Oh, and the weird dude who put a knife to my throat." She reminded them.

"Okay you are really harshing my spirit, so please just stop." Alex groaned, walking over to the kitchen. Josie and Henry, look at each other snickering at their friend.

"You two scourges, I'm putting music on." She pulled out her phone, hooking up the speaker. Henry climbed down from the ladder, both looking at the tree in the corner of the room.

"What do you think?" He asks her, and she shrugs. "Could use some ornaments." She adds, he nodded.

"You seem merrier than last year." He adds, she furrowed her brows. "You mean two years ago, I don't really have a reason not to be happy." She tells him.

A yap caught their attention, she looked down at the tiled floor. A small brown-white chihuahua with a purple collar, growled chewing on the ends of an elf squeaky toy. The EMT house had a contest to see who would take the dog, Bautista wasn't interested in their games but instead randomly chose, and it was Alex.

"What the heck is that?" Henry asked smiling, he bent down petting the small dog behind the ears. "That is Peanut," Josie tells him.

"You got a dog?" He wondered, and she nodded. "Well yeah, she is more of Alex's dog but I still like her." She says.
