Never Let Me Go
EVEN THOUGH she wished she was anywhere but in that backyard, she was still enjoying herself. The music played an upbeat Latin mix, keeping in mixes she knew and some she didn't. Few of the neighbors had come by, mostly there for the game of dominos and the free food.
Josie had thought ahead, knowing the temperature in Flordia would be different from California. Choosing a more feminine style dress, she didn't mind getting dressed up for events she loved any excuse to wear extravagant outfits.
She wore a grey tank top, the straps big enough to cover some of her shoulders. She paired it with a burnt orange floral skirt that ruffled to her knees. The natural curl in her hair came back with the humidity of the state, she just did it half up half down.
"¿Cómo te va? Te ves muy bien."(How's it going, huh You looking pretty good.) A voice spoke up, Josie looked up from her plate of empanadas. Seeing a young man with curls done up, she was sure he wasn't out of high school yet.
"Soy bastante buena y tu (I'm pretty good and you?)". Josie responded, ignoring his advances. He smirked, and an older woman came by forcing him and cursing him out in Spanish. She chuckled shaking his head.
"You have everyone's attention."Diego teased her, and she smirked. "He's just a kid, he was being a flirt," Josie tells him, he shakes his head.
"I meant they are expecting a show." He insinuated, her shoulders slumped. "You mean everyone is expecting a fight." Josie corrected him.
"Yeah, will there be one?" He wondered, she shook her head. "My track record of parties this year hasn't been the greatest so it's possible." She remarked.
"I'm guessing you're leaving as quick as you got here?" He asked her, she blinked slowly. "The sooner I'm back in LA, the better." She mumbled.
"What about the boys? They will be so to see you go." He pointed out, she shrugged. "I'm not gonna ditch them, I will give you a goodbye." She promised.
"There is another reason you want to be back in Calafornia so soon right? And it's not to get away from Mom." He says. She inhaled deeply.
"Dont think it takes a genius to see that." Diego chuckled, she licked her lips. "There is someone yeah," Josie says.
"And don't play the macho big brother card, you have met him already." Josie reasured him. He raised a brow. "I have? Wait a minute." He realized.
"¿Bombera caliente con la niña?" (Hot firefighter with the kid) He smiled at her. He brought his hand to his mouth watching her hide her smile behind her hands.
"Está bien, me estás engañando." (Okay your switching up on me) He playfully pushed her, and she groaned irritated.
"Pensé que simplemente te gustaban los chicos blancos. ( I thought you just liked white boys) He cackled, and she elbowed him.
