It was finally the time of goodbyes, I used to think I might shed uncountable tears at the time of my ruqsati but here I'm not shedding a single tear. We stepped down from the stage and Aaban held my hand as my face was covered with the veil.My family was standing near the exit. Well, the name sake, blood family. As my eyes landed on Abbu my breath hitched and I froze for a second holding Aaban's hand in a tight grip. Everything that happened came crashing down and it only made me scared.
"Mein yahi hun." (I'm here). Aaban's voice calmed me a little but I was still reluctant to take a step further. He was caressing the back of my hand and I took a deep breath to calm myself down. He is here. He won't let anything happen to me.
We started walking again and reached towards my blood family. To be a real family blood isn't enough and who can tell it better than me.
Abbu kept his hand on my head and it made my breath hitched. My grip tightened on his palm. Even Ammi did the same just keeping her hand on my head and I'm sure it is just for the show. They wouldn't have looked at me twice if not for the people.
Then I turned my attention to the side looking at Zara di, she came closer and hugged me. "I'm sorry for everything. If you need anything I'm always there." She whispered patting my back. I wasn't able to say a word. We moved back and to my surprise Zahid Bhai hugged me too.
Aaban's grip finally loosened on my hand and I hugged back. It is the first time that we actually hugged. "Always be happy and leave the past where it belongs. Don't let it ruin your future." He whispered and I nodded in response.
We moved back and he smiled at me. I just glanced at Zubair and Zayna then turned around towards Aaban. He took my hand again and we finally exited with my actual family.
We sat in the car with Aaban helping me with the dress. Not a single drop left my eyes. They already left me 2 months ago now it doesn't even feel like I'm gonna live without them. I got so immune to Aaban and Maama's presence that it doesn't feel like I'm going to my in-laws.
"Theek ho?" (Are you fine?). He was so concerned for me. He always kept his promise, he promised that nothing wrong would happen and he kept it. From the start to end he was with me, standing as a shield in my protection.
"Jee." (Yes). I whispered back and felt his lips at the back of my hand. Ya Allah please don't break our bond. I can never endure it, please don't change him. I leaned my head on his shoulder and kept my right hand on his arm.
The journey was quick and we stepped out. I looked at the surroundings and couldn't hold back my smile nor able to look away from all the decorations. The palace was heavily decorated with fairy lights all across it. The lamps were illuminating the light and it looked so magical.
"Chalein?" He asked and I nodded with a cheeky smile but it was hidden under the veil. We took a step inside and I noticed it now that the pathway was filled with rose petals with artificial candles, made a line till the entrance of the house.
"It's so beautiful." I whispered unable to hold back my excitement. "abhi toh picture baaqi hai." (The real fun is yet to begin). He whispered back and we were showered by rose petals by his cousins. They were continuously hooting as we took each step.
It was so dreamy but the thing is I never even dreamt about it. My life was so messed up that I never thought of being treated like this. Alhamdulillah ya rab.
We finally entered the house and even the stairs were covered with rose petals. How much effort it might've taken to do all of this. After a while of performing the other rituals. I was taken up to Aaban's room well now mine too and he was dragged with his cousins.
