As I turned off the light I heard a faint shriek of Amyrah and she held my arm in a tight grip. "Amyrah."

"Please.. Please lights on kar dein." (Please, Turn on the lights). Her voice was shaking and I immediately turned on the lights. She got curled up by my side, while clutching my arm with both of her hands and eyes closed tightly.

She was even trembling a little. I encircled my other arm around her while stroking her hair. "Jaani, khol di hai lights." I whispered in a soft tone, but she was still breathing heavily with her eyes shut tight.

"Amyrah." I softly kissed her forehead pulling her closer towards me. After a minute or two she opened her eyes and looked at me. There were tears brimming in her eyes with the fear evident in them.

"Sab theek hai." (Everything's fine). I whispered and she started taking deep breaths and came a little more closer towards me and buried her face on my bicep.

I moved my hand from her face and pulled her in my embrace while patting her back and massaging her scalp. What might be going on with her?

After a while the tremble of her body was back to normal and her fist loosened around my t-shirt. She looked so much calmer than before. She moved a little and looked at me.

"Theek ho?" (Are you fine?). I asked while gazing in her eyes and she gave a small nod.

"I'm scared of darkness. It terrifies me and I can't breathe properly." She whispered looking deep in my eyes. I kissed her forehead and pulled her back in my embrace.

"It won't happen again." I mumbled and she nodded.

"You can turn it off but let the side lamps on please."

"No need for that. I can sleep like this." Though I sleep in complete darkness I can still manage for her. I would never do anything which might scare her.

"I know you don't sleep like this, I'm fine with the lamps on but not completely dark." She whispered looking up at me.

"Are you sure? Cause I can manage."

She nodded with a smile looking up at me. I was still reluctant to do it as the reaction I got just a few minutes ago wasn't a pleasant one. "Band kar dein Aaban." (Turn it off Aaban). She mumbled and her eyes gave me the green signal.

First I turned on the lamps then turned the lights off and got back to my position looking at her. "How did you get the kitten?" She asked in a whisper.

"She was the one who chose me." I mumbled and her smile widened with curiosity dangling in her eyes. I can read her like an open book.

"How?"

"She came to me when I was offering my Salah in the masjid and sat there silently without any noise till I was done. I looked for her mother but she was alone and after taking the permission of Imam I took her to the veterinarian and adopted it."

There was a beautiful smile spread across her face listening to it. "So, it's a girl." She whispered with a giggle. "Aaban, what do you want as your firstborn? A girl or a boy?" She asked out of nowhere and it made me choke on the air.

I composed myself and looked at her. She was looking at me with those innocence filled eyes of hers. "Before thinking about that we should think about the procedure to bring them." Her eyes widened and she immediately turned the other side making me laugh hard.

I snaked my arm under her waist and pulled her back to my chest and nuzzled my face in her hair. She was breathing heavily and I pulled her closer attaching her back to my chest.
