Ren stood at the edge of the crumbling cliff, the cool night breeze ruffling his fur. Below, the moonlight cast an eerie glow on the ruins of what was once their shared base. The memories of laughter, planning, and camaraderie now felt like distant echoes, swallowed by the chasm that had grown between him and Doc.
He heard footsteps approaching but didn't turn. He knew who it was.
"Ren," Doc's voice was soft, almost pleading. "We need to talk."
Ren closed his eyes, trying to steady the storm of emotions within him. "What is there to talk about, Doc? Everything's already been said."
Doc sighed, stepping closer but stopping a few feet away. "I didn't mean for any of this to happen. The Redstone experiment... it was supposed to be our breakthrough."
"Our breakthrough?" Ren scoffed, turning to face Doc, his eyes burning with anger and hurt. "You went behind my back, Doc. You risked everything we built together for your obsession with perfection. You didn't even think about the consequences."
"I did think about them," Doc replied, his voice trembling. "But I thought I could control it. I thought I could make it work."
Ren's shoulders slumped, the fight leaving him. "And now look where we are. Our base is in ruins, the trust between us shattered. I don't know if we can ever fix this."
Doc took a tentative step forward, reaching out a hand. "Ren, please. I'm sorry. I know I messed up, but I want to make it right. We can rebuild. We can start over."
Ren stared at Doc's outstretched hand, the memories of their adventures flashing before his eyes. Part of him wanted to reach out, to forgive, to move forward. But the pain was still too raw.
"I don't know if I can trust you again," Ren whispered, his voice breaking. "Every time I look at you, I see the betrayal. I see the moment everything fell apart."
Doc's hand fell to his side, his expression one of deep sorrow. "I understand. But I'll be here, waiting. I'll do whatever it takes to earn your trust back, Ren. Because losing you is not something I can live with."
Ren turned away, staring out into the distance. "I need time, Doc. Time to heal, time to decide if this is something I can forgive."
Doc nodded, even though Ren couldn't see it. "Take all the time you need. I'll be here."
As Ren walked away, leaving Doc standing alone on the cliff, he couldn't help but hope that maybe, just maybe, time would heal their broken bond. But for now, the wounds were too fresh, the pain too real.
And so, beneath the pale moonlight, two hearts ached, separated by a rift of their own making, yet bound by a shared history and a glimmer of hope for the future.
This one it only took one try to get something that I generally liked, and I'm going through a list of ships for angst, but after that, I'll go back to randomly picking a ship and doing fluff and stuff.
Happy reading lovelies!!
