= Marjorie is held up in a conference. Sorscha finally comes back to work, but is still anxious about her very pregnant Clodagh. Upon not seeing Marjorie in the office, and only being greeted by Autumn, she feels a little guilty.
The door swung open, startling Autumn a little, but she kept up a tough front, as usual.
"Hiya Marjo- oh? Autumn, heya!"
"Morning Sorscha,"
"Errr do you know where Marjorie is?"
"She's held up in a meeting conference, she won't be back anytime soon, what's the issue?"
"Oh uh don't worry about it Autumn. I errr"
"Go on Sorscha, I'm sure I can try help, I am deputy after all."
"Errr." Dear Mary Jesus and Joseph was this feeling like it was a hard conversation to have with Autumn. Sorscha was so worried about pulling the wrong lever and potentially upsetting Autumn, they were friends and definitely cared about each other, but her and Autumn expressed things in different ways and that was a barrier to their communication. Neither a good nor bad thing, you know?
Autumn was trying to be a little more stern, with more things to do in the day, equally she could understand Sorscha was nervous and on-edge about something, so she spoke softly.
"Sorscha..."
"I just wanted to leave my phone here with Marjorie and so then she could check if Clo rings me and I I'm only doing it because she is literally about to pop, I wouldn't ask her otherwise and I can't keep my phone with me and ah no it's grand I'll figure it out Autumn."
Autumn stared at the younger, who literally had just spat out all those words in one single breath. Her words were flying out of her mouth. She watched as Sorscha tried to hide herself catching her breath back.
"You do know... you don't have to, you know do that."
"Do what? Autumn?" Worry creeped back into her Irish accent, making her wobble her words a bit.
"The tiptoeing, I'm more than happy to keep your phone with me and check through the day. I know I didn't explicitly say anything, but I am overjoyed for you and Clodagh. My experience doesn't mean I can't celebrate the joy you two have found in raising this little life."
"I'm sorry Autumn, I just didn't know how to approach it best, yaknow? I didn't want to make you uncomfortable at all."
"I appreciate that Sorscha, but I'll keep your phone close by. I'll come find you if it rings."
"Oh about that, only answer if Clodagh calls please, family is very eager to be the 'first' there. I just want my wife to be okay."
"Understood, you'll be in the preschool room today."
"Alright, thanks Autumn. Really, I mean it, thank you."
Autumn simply smiled at Sorscha, it was really sweet to see Sorscha panic about making her uncomfortable, she almost wanted to laugh about it. People often panicked at conversing with her because of her tough outer demeanour, but those closest to her knew she had a gooey centre.
If they were to ever say that to her face, was a completely different story, they would have to be reminded of why she was nicknamed "the guard dog" in the first place.
Sorscha made her way to the preschool room, her mind still racing with thoughts of Clodagh. But as she settled into her work, Autumn's supportive words echoed in her mind, easing her nerves. She found comfort in knowing that despite their differences in showing affection, Autumn had her back. It wasn't the most obvious friendship, but the mutual understanding between them made it special.
