With our shopping bags in hand and Namiko's new shoes on her feet, we headed to my dad's house—Namiko's beloved Papa. He loved to spoil her, and I knew he would be thrilled to see the new additions to her wardrobe. As we drove, Namiko chattered excitedly about all the things we had seen and done at the mall.

"Papa's going to love my new shoes, Mommy!" she exclaimed, bouncing in her seat.

"I'm sure he will, mama's," I replied, smiling at her enthusiasm. "He always loves to see you happy."

We pulled up to my dad's house, a modest but cozy home that had always been a haven for us. Namiko practically leaped out of the car, running up to the front door and ringing the bell with all the excitement of a child on Christmas morning.

The door opened to reveal my dad, his face breaking into a wide smile as he saw us. "Well, look who it is! My favorite girls!" he said, scooping Namiko up into a big hug.

"Hi, Papa!" Namiko squealed, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Look at my new shoes! Mommy got them for me at the mall!"

"Did she now?" he replied, setting her down to get a better look. "Those are some fancy shoes, young lady. You must have had quite the shopping trip."

"We did!" Namiko said, grabbing my hand and pulling me inside. "We got shoes and ice cream, and we saw Daddy too."

My dad's smile faltered for a moment at the mention of Jabari, but he quickly recovered. "Well, it sounds like you had a busy day. Come on in, and tell me all about it."

We followed him into the living room, where Namiko eagerly began showing off her new shoes and sandals. My dad listened with rapt attention, his eyes twinkling with pride and love for his granddaughter.

"These are beautiful, Namiko," he said, admiring the sparkly sneakers. "Your mommy has good taste."

"Yeah, Mommy's the best," Namiko declared, giving me a big hug.

I smiled, feeling a warm glow inside. "Thanks, Dad. It was a good day."

"Why don't we sit down and have some lemonade?" he suggested, leading us to the kitchen. "I've got some fresh cookies too."

"Yay, cookies!" Namiko cheered, running ahead to the kitchen.

As we settled at the kitchen table, my dad poured us each a glass of lemonade and set a plate of cookies in the center. We spent the next hour talking and laughing, Namiko sharing every detail of our day while my dad and I exchanged knowing glances and smiles.

"Thanks for bringing her by, Amara," my dad said quietly as Namiko busied herself with her new shoes. "She always brightens up my day."

"Of course, Dad," I replied, squeezing his hand. "You mean the world to her, and to me."

We sat in comfortable silence for a moment, watching Namiko play. Despite the challenges and the unexpected encounters, days like this reminded me of the love and support we had. With family by our side, I knew we could handle whatever came our way.
