Amara's POV
The next morning, Amara woke up early, her mind racing with the thought of leaving Namiko. As a nursing student, she had to go to the hospital, but the idea of leaving her daughter after what had happened filled her with dread.
She glanced at the clock, then over at Namiko, who was still sleeping peacefully. With a deep breath, Amara made a decision. She would take Namiko to her mother's house, where she knew Namiko would be safe and loved.
"Namiko, sweetie, time to get up," Amara whispered, gently shaking her daughter awake.
Namiko rubbed her eyes and looked up at her mother. "Are we going to Grandma's house today?"
"Yes, baby. Mommy has to go to work, but Grandma will take good care of you," Amara said, trying to sound cheerful despite the knot in her stomach.
They got ready quickly, and soon they were on their way. As they drove, Amara kept glancing in the rearview mirror at Namiko, who was quietly playing with her favorite stuffed animal.
When they arrived at her mother's house, Namiko's face lit up at the sight of her grandma. "Grandma!" she exclaimed, running into her arms.
Amara's mother hugged Namiko tightly, then looked up at Amara with concern. "How are you holding up, honey?"
"I'm managing," Amara replied, forcing a smile. "I just couldn't leave her at home today. Thank you for watching her."
"Of course, dear. You know she's always welcome here," her mother said reassuringly. "Go to work and do what you need to do. We'll be just fine."
Amara knelt down to Namiko's level, holding her close. "Be good for Grandma, okay? I'll come pick you up as soon as I'm done."
Namiko nodded, clinging to her mother for a moment before letting go. "I love you, Mommy."
"I love you too, mama's," Amara whispered, kissing her forehead.
As Amara drove to the hospital, she felt a mixture of relief and anxiety. She knew Namiko was safe with her mother, but the events of the previous day still weighed heavily on her mind. Arriving at the hospital, she took a deep breath and steeled herself for the day ahead, determined to stay focused and do her best despite the turmoil in her heart.
Throughout her shift, Amara couldn't help but worry about Namiko, but knowing she was in good hands gave her the strength to push through. Her colleagues noticed her distraction but didn't press her, understanding that she was going through something difficult.
When her shift finally ended, Amara rushed back to her mother's house, eager to see Namiko. As she walked in, she found Namiko and her mother sitting at the kitchen table, drawing pictures together.
"Mommy!" Namiko called out, running to hug her.
Amara scooped her up, holding her tightly. "Did you have a good day with Grandma?"
"Yes, we had lots of fun!" Namiko said, her eyes shining.
Amara smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. "I'm so glad. Thank you, Mom," she said, turning to her mother.
"Anytime, dear. You both need each other right now. And remember, we're all here for you," her mother replied, giving her a comforting hug.
As they headed home, Amara felt a renewed sense of hope. With the support of her family, she knew they would get through this challenging time together.
