Amara's POV
Amara had always prided herself on being responsible. Balancing nursing school, taking care of Namiko, and helping her mom was no easy feat, but she managed it all with grace. However, nothing could have prepared her for the nagging feeling that had taken root in her mind over the past week.
It all started after her night with Hakeem. They had gone out for a nice dinner, walked along the waterfront, and ended up back at his place. It was one of those nights that felt perfect in every way—until now. Amara was late. She knew her body well enough to know that this wasn't just a fluke. She needed to talk to someone, and fast.
Sitting in her room, she picked up her phone and called Morgan. Her best friend always knew how to calm her down.
"Hey girl, what's up?" Morgan answered cheerily.
"Morgan, I need to talk to you. Like, right now," Amara said, her voice trembling.
Morgan's tone immediately shifted. "What happened? Are you okay?"
"I don't know, that's the thing. I think... I might be pregnant."
There was a pause on the other end before Morgan replied, "Okay, breathe. Have you taken a test yet?"
"No, not yet. I'm too scared to do it alone," Amara admitted. "Can you come over?"
"Of course, I'm on my way. We'll figure this out together," Morgan assured her.
As Amara hung up, she felt a little better knowing Morgan was coming. But she also needed to talk to Jhene. Her little sister had always been her confidante, and this was too big to keep from her.
"Hey, sis," Amara greeted Jhene when she answered the call.
"Hey, what's up?" Jhene replied, sounding curious.
"I need to talk to you about something serious. Can you come over?"
"Sure, I'll be there in a bit. Are you okay?" Jhene asked, concern evident in her voice.
"I will be, once you get here," Amara said, trying to keep her voice steady.
It wasn't long before Morgan and Jhene arrived. They found Amara pacing in her living room, her anxiety palpable.
"Okay, we're here. What's going on?" Jhene asked, looking worried.
Amara took a deep breath. "I think I might be pregnant."
Morgan and Jhene exchanged glances before Morgan spoke up. "Alright, let's not panic. Do you have a pregnancy test?"
Amara nodded and led them to the bathroom. They all crowded in, the small space filled with nervous energy. Amara took the test and then they waited, the minutes feeling like hours.
"I can't believe this is happening," Amara said, sitting on the edge of the bathtub.
"Whatever happens, we've got your back," Morgan reassured her, placing a hand on her shoulder.
Jhene nodded in agreement. "Yeah, you're not alone in this."
Finally, the timer went off. Amara picked up the test with trembling hands and looked at it. Her heart dropped.
"It's positive," she whispered, tears welling up in her eyes.
Morgan immediately hugged her. "Hey, it's going to be okay. We'll figure this out."
Jhene joined the hug, her voice firm. "Yeah, we're in this together."
They spent the next hour talking, trying to process the news and plan the next steps. Amara was scared, but having her best friend and sister by her side made her feel a little stronger.
"What about Hakeem? Have you told him?" Morgan asked gently.
"No, not yet. I don't even know how to bring it up," Amara admitted.
"One step at a time," Jhene said. "First, we need to make sure you're taking care of yourself. Then we'll figure out how to tell him."
Amara nodded, feeling a glimmer of hope. She knew the road ahead wouldn't be easy, but with Morgan and Jhene's support, she felt ready to face whatever came next.
