Amara's POV
Later that evening, Amara knew it was time to check in with Namiko and explain, as best she could, what had been happening. She found Namiko playing with her toys in the living room, her innocent laughter a stark contrast to the chaos of the past couple of days.
Amara sat down next to her daughter, gently pulling her onto her lap. "Hey, princess. Mommy needs to talk to you about something important, okay?"
Namiko looked up at her with wide eyes, her tiny hands gripping Amara's shirt. "Mommy, what 'portant?"
Amara took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. "Well, you know how Uncle Hakeem had some boo-boos?"
Namiko nodded, her expression serious. "Boo-boos. Uncle 'Keem okay?"
"Yeah, baby, he's okay now," Amara reassured her, stroking her hair. "Some not-so-nice people were mean to him, and he got hurt. But he's strong, and he's got us to help him feel better."
Namiko's brow furrowed in confusion. "Mean peoples? Why?"
"Sometimes people do bad things because they're upset or jealous," Amara explained, keeping it simple. "But we always stand up for our family and friends, and we take care of each other."
Namiko nodded slowly, her little mind processing the information. "Mommy take care Uncle 'Keem?"
"That's right," Amara said, smiling. "We help him heal and make sure he knows he's loved. And we all make sure we're safe, too."
Namiko reached out, touching Amara's cheek. "Mommy safe?"
Amara's heart melted at the concern in her daughter's eyes. "Yes, baby. Mommy's safe. And you're safe too. We look out for each other."
Namiko snuggled closer, her tiny arms wrapping around Amara's neck. "Love Mommy. Love Uncle 'Keem."
Amara hugged her tightly, feeling a sense of relief and gratitude. "We love you too, Namiko. Always."
Namiko pulled back slightly, her big eyes shining. "Uncle 'Keem come play?"
Amara chuckled softly. "Not today, sweetie. He needs to rest and get better. But soon, okay?"
"Okay, Mommy," Namiko said, her smile returning. "I make him card?"
"That's a great idea," Amara said, kissing her forehead. "He'll love that."
They spent the next hour together, Namiko drawing a colorful card for Hakeem with Amara's help. As Namiko proudly showed off her creation, Amara felt a deep sense of peace. Despite everything that had happened, they were together, and their bond was stronger than ever.
"Let's go show Uncle Hakeem your card tomorrow," Amara suggested, knowing it would lift his spirits.
"Okay!" Namiko agreed excitedly. "Uncle 'Keem be happy!"
Amara smiled, her heart full. "Yeah, he will be. And so will we."
