Amara's POV
That evening, after Hakeem left, Amara decided it was time to talk to Jhene. She scooped up Namiko, who was busy playing with her toys, and got her ready to visit her mom's house.
"Come on, baby girl, we're going to see Grandma," Amara said, buckling Namiko into her car seat.
"Yay! Grandma!" Namiko cheered, clapping her hands.
The drive to her mom's house was quick, and soon Amara was pulling into the familiar driveway. She got Namiko out of the car and made her way to the front door, where she knocked and waited.
"Hey, baby!" her mom greeted, opening the door with a big smile. "Come on in."
"Hey, Mom," Amara said, stepping inside. "I brought Namiko over to see you and to talk to Jhene."
"Oh, Jhene's in her room," her mom said, looking curious. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, just some stuff going on with her and Elijah," Amara explained. "I wanted to check in on her."
Her mom nodded. "Alright, you know where to find her. I'll keep Namiko entertained."
"Thanks, Mom," Amara said, giving her mom a quick hug before heading down the hallway to Jhene's room.
She knocked on the door and waited until she heard Jhene's voice. "Come in."
Amara opened the door and stepped inside, finding Jhene sitting on her bed, scrolling through her phone. "Hey, Jhene."
"Hey, sis," Jhene said, looking up. "What's up?"
"Can we talk for a minute?" Amara asked, sitting down beside her.
"Sure," Jhene said, putting her phone down. "What's going on?"
"I talked to Hakeem, and he mentioned that Elijah's been feeling off too. We thought maybe a double date at the beach this weekend could help you guys unwind and talk things out," Amara explained.
Jhene looked thoughtful. "A double date? You think that'll help?"
"I do," Amara said. "Sometimes, just getting out and having fun together can make a big difference. And with us there, you won't feel so much pressure."
"Yeah, maybe," Jhene said, nodding slowly. "I guess it's worth a shot."
"Good," Amara said, smiling. "We'll set it up for Saturday around noon. It'll be a chill day, just us hanging out and having fun."
"Okay, I'm in," Jhene said, smiling back. "Thanks, sis."
"Anytime," Amara said, giving her a quick hug. "We're here for you, no matter what."
After talking to Jhene, Amara headed back to the living room where her mom was playing with Namiko. She sat down on the couch, watching them for a moment before her mom turned to her.
"How'd it go?" her mom asked.
"Pretty good," Amara said. "Jhene's on board with the beach trip. Hopefully, it'll help them sort things out."
"That's good to hear," her mom said. "You know, relationships are tough, but having family support makes a big difference."
"Definitely," Amara agreed. "Hakeem and I are trying to be there for them as much as we can. It's just, sometimes it's hard to know the right thing to do."
"You're doing great, baby," her mom said, giving her a reassuring smile. "You're showing them that they're not alone, and that's huge."
"Thanks, Mom," Amara said, feeling a sense of relief. "By the way, have you noticed anything with Jhene lately? Like, anything out of the ordinary?"
Her mom sighed, nodding. "Yeah, she's been a bit down. I think she's feeling the stress from school and her relationship. It's a lot for her to handle."
"That's what I figured," Amara said. "I'm hoping this beach trip will help her relax and open up more."
"It probably will," her mom said. "And if she needs more support, we'll all be here for her."
"Always," Amara said, smiling. "Family's got to stick together."
"That's right," her mom agreed. "Now, let's get some dinner going. I'm sure Namiko's getting hungry."
As they headed to the kitchen, Amara felt a renewed sense of purpose. With her family by her side, she knew they could help Jhene and Elijah navigate their challenges and come out stronger on the other side. And no matter what, they'd always have each other's backs.
