Hakeem's POV
Hakeem drove over to Amara's house, his mind occupied with thoughts of her and Namiko. He knew they had been through a lot, and he wanted to make sure they were okay. As he pulled into the driveway, he saw Amara's car already there, which reassured him that she was home from her shift.
He walked up to the front door and knocked gently. Moments later, Amara opened the door, a tired but grateful smile on her face.
"Hakeem, it's good to see you," she said, stepping aside to let him in.
"I wanted to check on you and Namiko," Hakeem replied, stepping into the cozy living room. "How are you both holding up?"
Amara sighed, running a hand through her hair. "It's been tough, but we're managing. Namiko's been having a hard time, but she's a strong little girl."
Just then, Namiko peeked out from behind the couch, her eyes lighting up when she saw Hakeem. "Uncle Hakeem!" she exclaimed, running over to hug him.
Hakeem scooped her up, spinning her around gently. "Hey there, kiddo! How are you doing?"
Namiko clung to him, her small arms wrapped around his neck. "I'm okay. Grandma took care of me today."
Hakeem smiled, setting her down gently. "That's good to hear. Your grandma is the best."
Namiko nodded enthusiastically. "She made me cookies!"
Hakeem chuckled. "Lucky you. Maybe I'll get some next time I visit."
As Namiko went back to her drawing, Hakeem turned to Amara. "Have you thought about what you want to do next? With Jabari and everything?"
Amara nodded, her expression serious. "I'm going to talk to a lawyer. I need to make sure Namiko is protected. I can't let something like this happen again."
Hakeem placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "You're doing the right thing. And remember, you're not alone. We're all here for you and Namiko."
Amara's eyes softened with gratitude. "Thank you, Hakeem. It means a lot to have your support."
Hakeem stayed for a while longer, chatting with Amara and playing with Namiko. He could see how much the little girl adored her mother and felt a deep sense of responsibility to help them through this challenging time.
As he left, Hakeem promised to check in regularly and be there whenever they needed him. Driving away, he felt more determined than ever to ensure that Amara and Namiko stayed safe and supported, no matter what challenges lay ahead.
