After reassuring her dad about Hakeem, Amara felt it was equally important to share the news with her mom. She knew her mom would also be thrilled for her but might have her own concerns, given how protective she was of Amara and Namiko.

Later that evening, Amara called her mom, hoping to catch her between her busy nursing shifts.

"Hey, Mom," Amara greeted warmly once her mom picked up.

"Hey, sweetheart. How are you?" her mom replied, her voice tired but full of love.

"I'm good, Mom. I actually have some exciting news," Amara said, unable to hide the smile in her voice.

"Oh? What is it, honey?" her mom asked, sounding curious.

"Hakeem asked me to be his girlfriend," Amara announced proudly.

There was a brief pause on the other end of the line before her mom responded, her voice filled with a mixture of happiness and concern. "Oh, Amara, that's wonderful! I'm so happy for you, sweetheart."

Amara could hear the slight hesitation in her mom's tone and knew exactly what was on her mind. "I know, Mom. But please don't worry. Hakeem's been amazing. He's patient, kind, and he really cares about me and Namiko."

"I just want to make sure you're safe, honey," her mom explained softly. "After everything you've been through..."

"I understand, Mom," Amara reassured her. "And I promise I'm being careful. Hakeem respects us, Mom. He's nothing like Jabari."

Her mom sighed, the worry evident in her voice. "Okay, sweetheart. Just promise me you'll keep your eyes open, alright?"

"I promise, Mom," Amara replied sincerely. "And thank you for always looking out for me and Namiko. It means the world to us."

They talked a bit more, her mom asking about Namiko and sharing updates from work. By the end of the call, Amara felt a sense of relief. Her mom's support meant everything to her, and she knew that with her family standing behind her, she could face whatever the future held with Hakeem.

As she hung up, Amara couldn't help but feel grateful for her loving and protective parents. With their blessings, she felt even more confident about her relationship with Hakeem, knowing she had their unwavering support every step of the way.
