Later that evening, after Jhene left, Amara decided to call Hakeem to talk about the conversation she had with her sister. She knew it was important to keep the lines of communication open, especially since Elijah was Hakeem's little brother.
She picked up her phone and dialed Hakeem's number, waiting for him to answer. After a couple of rings, his familiar voice came through the line.
"Hey, Papa. Got a minute to talk?" Amara asked, leaning back on the couch.
"Always for you, what's on your mind?" he replied.
"It's about Jhene and Elijah. Jhene came over earlier, and she was pretty upset," Amara began, her voice serious.
Hakeem's tone shifted, concern evident. "What's going on with them?"
"They've been arguing a lot lately, and Jhene doesn't know if it's just stress or something deeper," Amara explained. "I told her they need to take some time to really talk things out, but I think they might need more than that."
Hakeem sighed. "Yeah, I've noticed Elijah's been a bit off lately too. I didn't realize it was affecting their relationship this much though."
"Me neither," Amara said. "I think they need some support from us, you know? Maybe we can help them figure things out."
"Absolutely. They're both young, and sometimes they just need a little guidance," Hakeem agreed. "What do you think we should do?"
Amara thought for a moment. "Well, I was thinking maybe we could set up a double date or something. Just a casual day where we can all hang out, have fun, and maybe they'll feel more comfortable opening up."
Hakeem chuckled. "That sounds like a good idea, Mama. They might feel less pressure if it's more of a relaxed setting."
"Exactly. We can go somewhere they both like. Maybe the beach or a nice restaurant," Amara suggested.
"The beach sounds perfect. Elijah loves the water, and it'll give them a chance to unwind," Hakeem said, his voice brightening at the thought.
"Great. Let's plan it for this weekend then," Amara said, feeling hopeful.
"Sounds like a plan, Mama. I'll talk to Elijah and make sure he's on board," Hakeem promised.
"And I'll talk to Jhene," Amara added. "We just gotta remind them that every relationship has its ups and downs, and it's all about how you handle them."
"Right. And with us there, hopefully, they'll feel more supported and less alone," Hakeem said. "You always know how to make things better, Mama."
Amara smiled, feeling a warmth spread through her. "We make a good team, Papa. We got this."
"Yeah, we do," Hakeem agreed. "Hey, how's Namiko doing? Did she have a good day?"
"She did. We went to the park with Morgan and Leo. She had a blast," Amara said, her voice lightening.
"That's good to hear. I miss my little princess," Hakeem said fondly.
"She misses you too. You'll see her soon," Amara promised.
They continued to talk, discussing the details of their plan for the weekend and catching up on each other's days. The conversation left Amara feeling more connected and hopeful, knowing that together, they could help Jhene and Elijah navigate their relationship challenges.
The next morning, Amara got up early to start preparing for the day. As she was making breakfast for Namiko, she heard a knock at the door. Opening it, she found Hakeem standing there, a warm smile on his face.
"Hey, Mama," he greeted, stepping inside and giving her a kiss.
"Hey, Papa," she replied, smiling back. "You're here early."
"Couldn't wait to see my girls," he said, scooping up Namiko, who had just toddled into the kitchen.
"Papa!" Namiko squealed with delight, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"There's my princess," Hakeem said, giving her a big hug.
As they sat down to eat, Amara and Hakeem discussed their plan for the weekend in more detail, making sure everything was set.
"Okay, so we're thinking Saturday around noon?" Hakeem confirmed, sipping his coffee.
"Yeah, that works. I'll make sure Jhene is ready, and we'll head to the beach," Amara said.
"Perfect. I'll handle everything on my end," Hakeem assured her. "They're gonna have a great time, and hopefully, it'll help them work through whatever's going on."
Amara nodded. "Definitely. And if they need more support, we'll be there for them."
"Always, Mama," Hakeem said, reaching over to hold her hand. "We're in this together."
As they finished breakfast, Amara felt a renewed sense of hope. With Hakeem by her side, she knew they could help Jhene and Elijah navigate their relationship and come out stronger on the other side. Together, they were ready to face whatever challenges came their way, supporting each other and their loved ones with all the love and care they could muster.
