The days leading up to the proposal were filled with excitement for Hakeem, but he was also feeling the weight of the secret he was carrying. To keep the proposal a surprise, he had been acting a bit differently than usual, which didn't go unnoticed by Amara.

Amara had been enjoying their time together, especially since they had just completed painting the baby's room and were preparing for the arrival of their baby. However, she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Hakeem seemed preoccupied and distant, and he had been unusually quiet about his own activities.

One evening, as they were winding down after a day of errands and preparation for the baby, Amara decided it was time to address her concerns. She and Hakeem were sitting on the couch, enjoying a quiet moment together. Namiko was already tucked into bed, and the house was peaceful.

Amara looked at Hakeem, who was scrolling through his phone absentmindedly. "Hakeem, you've seemed a bit off lately. Is everything okay? You've been acting kind of stressed and distant."

Hakeem glanced up from his phone, trying to mask his nervousness. "Oh, it's nothing really. Just work stuff, you know? Things have been a bit hectic lately."

Amara raised an eyebrow, not entirely convinced. "Are you sure it's just work? You've been acting differently for a while now. If there's something bothering you, you can talk to me."

Hakeem hesitated, searching for the right words. He didn't want to reveal the proposal plans, but he also didn't want to worry Amara unnecessarily. "I promise, it's nothing serious. Just a lot on my plate at work, trying to meet deadlines and manage everything."

Amara studied his face, noting the stress lines and the way he was avoiding eye contact. "I get that work can be stressful, but you've been more distant than usual. Is there anything I can do to help?"

Hakeem forced a reassuring smile, hoping to ease her concerns. "Honestly, it's just a busy period. I'll be fine. I didn't want to burden you with it."

Amara nodded, though she still felt a pang of unease. "Alright, if you're sure. Just remember, you don't have to go through things alone. I'm here for you, no matter what."

Hakeem reached out and took her hand, his touch warm and sincere. "Thank you, Amara. I really appreciate your understanding. I promise it's nothing to worry about."

They spent the rest of the evening in each other's company, but Amara couldn't completely shake her concern. She trusted Hakeem but wished he would open up more about what was really going on. As the days continued, she hoped that whatever was troubling him would be resolved soon, and that their life together would remain as joyful and loving as it had been.

Hakeem, meanwhile, was relieved to have dodged the immediate concern but felt guilty for not being more transparent with Amara. He knew that the proposal was a significant and happy surprise, and he hoped that his efforts would be worth the temporary discomfort of keeping the secret.
