next morning, the tension from the previous night's argument still lingered in the air. Amara was in the kitchen, making breakfast for Namiko, who was happily coloring at the table. Hakeem walked in, looking a bit hesitant but determined to clear the air.
"Morning," he said softly, approaching the kitchen island where Amara was flipping pancakes.
Amara glanced at him, her expression neutral. "Morning."
Hakeem took a deep breath, deciding to dive right in. "Amara, about last night... I'm sorry. I should've been more upfront with you about Tasha."
Amara sighed, setting the spatula down. "I just don't understand why she feels so comfortable texting you at all hours, Hakeem. It feels disrespectful to our relationship."
Hakeem nodded, understanding her frustration. "You're right. I should've set boundaries. I'll talk to her and make it clear that she can't be texting me like that, especially at night."
Amara poured syrup over a stack of pancakes and handed the plate to Namiko, who was eagerly waiting. "Thank you for understanding, Hakeem. It's not that I don't trust you; it's just that this kind of thing can easily cause misunderstandings."
Hakeem walked over to her, placing a hand on her shoulder. "I get it, Amara. I don't want anything to come between us. I'll handle it."
Amara turned to face him, her expression softening. "I appreciate that. Communication is key, Hakeem. We need to be open with each other about everything."
He pulled her into a gentle hug. "You're right, and I'm committed to doing better. I love you, Amara."
"I love you too," she replied, hugging him back tightly.
As they pulled away, Amara smiled at him. "Now, let's enjoy breakfast with Namiko and put this behind us."
Hakeem nodded, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. They joined Namiko at the table, sharing a peaceful breakfast together, knowing that they had taken a step towards strengthening their relationship.
