Amara's POV
As they drove home, Amara gently stroked Namiko's hair, trying to soothe her trembling form. "I'm so sorry you had to go through that, sweetheart," she murmured, her voice thick with emotion.
Namiko clung to her mother, tears still streaming down her cheeks. "I want to go home, Mommy," she whispered, her voice small and scared.
Amara kissed the top of Namiko's head, holding her close. "We're going home, baby. You're safe now, I promise."
Once they arrived home, Amara settled Namiko into her favorite spot on the couch, wrapping her in a soft blanket. She sat beside her, rubbing circles on her back and waiting for Namiko to speak.
"Why did Daddy do that, Mommy?" Namiko finally asked, her voice trembling.
Amara took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts. "Daddy was...confused, sweetie. Sometimes grown-ups make mistakes, and Daddy made a big one today."
Namiko looked up at her with big, tear-filled eyes. "Is Daddy mad at me?"
Amara's heart broke at the innocence in Namiko's question. "No, baby, Daddy isn't mad at you. He's just...figuring things out."
"But I don't want to see Daddy anymore," Namiko said, her voice wavering.
Amara hugged her tightly, feeling a surge of protectiveness. "We'll figure it out together, okay? I promise I'll keep you safe."
Namiko nodded, snuggling closer to her mother. "I love you, Mommy."
"I love you too, mama's," Amara whispered, pressing a kiss to Namiko's forehead.
Later that evening, Amara called her brothers and Hakeem into the living room. They sat together, a united front, discussing the next steps. "I don't want Namiko near Jabari again," Amara stated firmly, her voice unwavering.
Delonte nodded in agreement. "We'll make sure he understands that."
Shawn spoke up next. "We should consider legal options. This can't happen again."
Amara sighed, knowing Shawn was right. "I'll talk to a lawyer. We need to protect Namiko."
Hakeem squeezed Amara's hand in support. "Whatever you decide, we're here for you and Namiko."
Amara nodded gratefully, feeling the weight of their support. "Thank you, all of you. We'll get through this together."
The room fell into a thoughtful silence as they began to plan how best to move forward, determined to ensure Namiko's safety and well-being above all else.
