"I didn't fall for him loudly. I fell for him in the
moments he thought no one was watching."
"So what, jerk?" the leader sneered, stepping closer. "You just gonna keep crying or are you gonna give us the bag?"
The boy pressed himself against the brick wall, knuckles white around the straps of his backpack. His glasses sat crooked on his nose, hands shaking so badly they rattled against the zipper.
"I–I–I—" he tried.
"I–I–I," the bully mocked immediately. "Shut up. Just give it here."
The leader reached out—
Thud.
Something landed between them with a solid thump.
The bullies jumped back in unison.
"Woooah—okay, gentlemen," a voice said cheerfully. "Let's all take a breath. Preferably without violence. Big fan of that concept."
They looked down.
Red and blue. Mask. White lenses tilting as the figure straightened.
"See, from where I'm standing—and granted, I do stand upside down a lot—this feels super unfair," Spider-Man continued. "Three of you versus one guy who looks like he still gets homework reminders from his mom."
"What the heck—who are you?" the leader snapped.
"Oh, me?" Spider-Man pointed at himself. "Just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. And I think instead of robbing people, you should maybe go ask your mommy and daddy for lunch money. Or allowance. Or emotional support. Whichever's lacking."
One of the bullies frowned. "Did he just—"
Spider-Man shot a web at the wall beside them, casually leaning on it.
"Also, quick note? Crime? Not cute. Intimidation? Very 2008. And bullying?" He tilted his head. "Huge red flag. Therapy-worthy."
The leader took a step back. "You think you're funny?"
"Oh, absolutely. Crowd favorite. Five stars on Yelp."
Another thwip—webbing shot out and glued the leader's shoe to the pavement.
"What—HEY!"
"Oops," Spider-Man said. "Reflex."
The other two bullies panicked instantly.
"Forget it, man!"
They ran. One tripped. The other nearly faceplanted. The leader yanked his foot free with a curse before scrambling after them.
Silence fell over the alley.
The boy was still frozen.
Spider-Man turned to him, crouching down so they were eye level. "Hey. You good?"
The boy nodded... then shook his head... then nodded again.
"Okay," Spider-Man said gently. "First thing—breathe. Second thing—those guys? Not worth your fear. Ever."
The boy swallowed. "I—I didn't know what to do."
"That's okay," Spider-Man said. "But next time? Say no. Loud if you have to. And if it gets bad, you get help. Teachers. Friends. Anyone. You don't deal with stuff like this alone, yeah?"
The boy nodded again, more firmly this time.
"Good," Spider-Man said, standing. "Confidence is like a muscle. Feels impossible at first, but it gets stronger."
