"Are you sure you can finish this book in three days?" Jisoo asked, raising an eyebrow as she read the summary of the novel you had just picked up from the library shelf.

"Why not? I love this author. I can finish it in a snap," you replied excitedly, hugging the book to your chest.

As per the library's policy, no one was allowed to borrow a book for more than three days. If they did, they'd have to pay an overtime fee-one that most people couldn't afford. Then again, as the daughter of a nobleman, everyone assumed you had more than enough wealth to pay. If only they knew.

"Fine, then. Let's go pay," Jisoo said, pulling out some money from her vintage purse.

The two of you approached the counter, but no one was there.

"Where is Uncle Jeon?" Jisoo wondered, glancing around.

"Maybe he's in the storage room?" you guessed.

Just then, a loud thud echoed from behind the counter, followed by a muffled groan. A moment later, a young man emerged, rubbing the back of his head.

And that was when you saw him.

You froze.

There was something about him-majestic, captivating-something you couldn't quite name. He wasn't just handsome; he was otherworldly.

"Ah, sorry. I was fixing the computer," the young man muttered, shaking off the pain as he took Jisoo's book and typed something into the system. He was focused, his gaze never lifting from the screen as he handled the transaction.

But you? You weren't paying attention to anything else.

You were lost in him.

And he hadn't even noticed you yet, still immersed in his work.

"Hey, what are you waiting for? Pay," Jisoo nudged you, snapping you out of your daze.

"Oh-right." You cleared your throat, stepping forward and placing the book and money on the counter.

At the sound of your voice, he finally looked up.

And froze.

For a moment, neither of you spoke. The world around you faded. It was just you and him, locked in an unspoken moment of recognition neither of you understood.

Jisoo glanced between you two, confused. Not really understanding what is going on.

To break the tension, she cleared her throat loudly.

The boy averted his gaze and started coughing frantically, while you averted your gaze, pretending to be busy looking at the bookshelves. Your heartbeat pounded in your ears as he hurriedly processed your payment.

The moment the transaction was complete, you grabbed your book, muttered a quick, "Thank you," and practically rushed out of the library with Jisoo in tow.

As you stepped outside, you finally exhaled the breath you didn't realize you had been holding.

What was that?

And why did you already know-without a single exchanged word-that you were never going to forget him?
