What was Christian's first father's day with Calvin like?

"Dad doesn't accept gifts for Father's Day?" Christian asked his siblings incredulously.

"Dad prefers to have one on one time with each of us. And then we all get together for dinner." Sarah explicated.

"Not even cake?" Jacob snorted while Sarah smiled.

"Where we're going has flambe dessert."

"Like banana foster?"

"Exactly."

"That could work." Christian spoke. "Just don't let me get too close to the flame. Last time my hair sizzled."

"Really?" Jacob asked in amusement.

"I'm not going to tell you the story."

"You're no fun." Christian humphed at him.

"Anyways." Sarah interrupted them. "We have decided to have Ashley treat him to breakfast. John will have tea with him after. Then Roger shall cruise with Dad on the backstreets to where Jessie has lunch with him and the kids. After that, Jacob will take dad to the movies. Dad and I will go to a spa session. And lastly you and dad decide on something to do before meeting at La Fleur for family dinner."

"What do we do?" Christian asked. "I'm not sure what we could do together."

"Take it from me bro." Jacob spoke. "A lot of times it's easier to ask dad what he would like to do, and you do it."

"But what if he wants to go back to the spa?"

"I highly doubt it. Now, the movie finishes around five thirty, so you guys will have until eight to hang out."

"I'll do my best." Christian wilted.

Father's Day arrived, and Christian is deciding on what to wear. "I don't want to overdress before dinner, but I also don't want to go to the restaurant wearing jeans and a T-shirt." He turned around with clothing in his hands. "What do you think?" Christian asked Jason.

"Just wear what you want." He sounded irritated.

Christian gave him a look. "What's your problem? I just want to dress appropriately."

"Good luck with those warned out converse yours."

Christian stared at the red and white tennis shoes he's got on his feet. "Dang it."

Jason sighed and got up before rummaging through Christian's clothes. "These will have to do." he presented his boyfriend a white polo shirt and black slacks. "Now if you'll excuse me."

As Jason was heading out. "Maybe after dinner we could see each other if you're not too busy with your dad." Christian spoke.

Jason stopped as he held the door open. "There are no plans with my father."

"Why not?"

"It's complicated." Jason answered him. "I'll see you after dinner." he shut the door closed as Christian frowned.

Later, Christian headed to the center of downtown where his dad was waiting for him. "Son!" Calvin exclaimed.

"Hey dad. Happy Father's Day." Christian greeted him bashfully.

Calvin smiled at him and noticed his clothing. "Your attire is different today."

"I wasn't sure what to wear for dinner, so."

"Everything with the exception of your shoes is fine."

Christian slumped. "These are the only footwear that I have. I asked John if he has an extra pair, but his feet are a size bigger than mine, so."

Calvin placed his hand on his shoulder. "Then we shall buy you a pair of dress shoes."

"I can't ask you to do that. Especially on father's day."

"I insist." Calvin said. "Besides, I haven't had the opportunity to go shopping today. So, pick the store you wish to go to."

Christian racked his brain until an idea popped into his head. "Well, there is a place I wouldn't mind checking for shoes. But I'm not sure it's your kind of place."

"Anywhere will do."

And the next thing Christian escorted Calvin inside a thrift shop. "I have heard of second hand stores, but have never been to one." Calvin stated.

Christian smiled sheepishly. "I know it doesn't seem like much, but you'd be surprised with all the treasures you find here. You buy me dress shoes and I'll get you one item in return."

"It's a deal." Calvin spoke and sniffed the air. "What's that musky smell?"

"Thrift stores always smell like that." Christian explained before grabbing a hand-held basket. "Let's browse around."

A few minutes later in the shoe section, Christian was trying on a few pairs of dress shoes as he heard Calvin gasping and letting out shouts of excitement as he browsed around the store. Peeking up, he notices a basket with a mountain of items and clothing galore. "What have I done?" Christian mumbled to himself.

When they were finished, Christian paid for a couple of items that he could afford before Calvin purchased Christian's shoes and three hundred dollars' worth of merchandise. "I'm sorry you bought so much dad." Christian told him.

"Why are you apologizing?" Calvin asked. "This was one of my most successful shopping trips."

"Really?"

"Normally I spend three hundred dollars on a tie alone. Being able to spend that much on more than one item is marvelous. Especially with the 50% discount."

"You've spent three hundred dollars on one tie?!" Christian shouted in surprise.

"Why do you sound surprised by that?" Calvin asked cluelessly.

"You're kidding, right?" Christian asked him. His dad still gave him a confused look. "You know, people use three hundred dollars to barley pay for rent, utilities, and groceries. And a lot of times that's not enough."

"Are you saying that I just waste money on material items? Just so you know that I work very hard and put many hours into my businesses, so I splurge a bit."

"A bit?" he bristled with the glare he's getting. "I mean, a bit sounds great."

Cavin recovered and smiled at Christian. "Now, let's take these to the hotel and head to dinner." he wrapped his arm with bags of items around Christian as onlookers stare at them.

When dinnertime came, Christian was seated with his siblings, mother, nieces and nephews, Bryan, and Troy at a fancy restaurant. "A toast to my beloved family and close friend who loves me unconditionally through thick and thin."

"To father." Ashley chirped with her glass raised.

"To father." Christian and the others cheered before enjoying their meal together.

When dinner finished and Christian bid his family goodnight, he returned to campus and found Jason outside his dorm room with a book in his hands. "Jason?"

He looked up upon hearing him. "Hey."

"What are you doing out here?"

"Waiting for you."

"You didn't have to wait for me here. I could've changed and met you at your room."

"My roommate is preoccupied with someone else at the moment, and noticed your roommate is out for the evening."

"Oh. Oh." Christian put two and two together before getting his keys out. Jason stood and followed him inside.

"How was it with your father?" Jason asked.

"You sure you want me to talk about it? I mean, you didn't get to spend the day with your dad." Christian muttered sadly.

Jason held his hand. "I haven't spent Father's Day with my dad since I was five years old."

"What?!"

"I'll tell you all about it after you tell me about your day."

"Okay." Christian hesitantly told him about his shopping adventure with Calvin and how dinner went. Jason smiled a bit as he contently listened to his mate.
