Chapter 32: Once Upon A Time-I

(One week ago)
(Enzo's POV)

I was sitting comfortably in my home, munching on chips, the only human food I like, when I heard footsteps at my door. Before they could knock on the door I said, "It's open." Maya and Monica came in faster than a bullet and said, "Enzo we need to talk to you about something very important."

"Weome oo my ome beauioul laies." I said, stuffing chips into my mouth.

"Sorry, we don't know any language other than English," Maya said, arching her eyebrows.

I swallowed the food in my mouth and said, "I said it in English. Welcome to my home beautiful ladies."

They both sighed and then Monica said, "c'mon Enzo, we are here to tell you something serious."

"Who died?" I asked.

"Not dead, alive. Your sister. I saw her." Maya said.

"Good. Wait! What?!" I asked getting shocked and they both nodded in sync.

"Yesterday we both went to Forbes' party and I saw her there." Maya said.

"Are you sure?" I asked.

"Nope" she said and I frowned.

"What the hell!" I said.

"I saw a girl who looked exactly like her and she wasn't a human." She said.

I sighed and said, "spit it all out" and then she told me every single shit that happened and I was awestruck after listening.

"See, I told you that she's not dead. I told you, guys but..." I said and paused.

"But what?" Monica asked.

"You guys are saying that you are not sure. So I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad." I said.

"Even though we are not sure, all we want is that she should be alive." Maya said.

"The one you saw may or may not be Aurora but wherever she is, she is alive. She cannot die because it's impossible to kill her." I said.

"How can you be so sure about this?" Monica asked.

"Because she's my sister and I want her to live, that's all." I said.

"No, that's not. Enzo, ever since you came here you have been repeating the same thing over and over that your sister is alive. Now stop beating around the bush and spit the truth." She said.

I glared at them both for a few seconds and then said, "because only I can kill her. Not humans, not vampires, not fucking anything. Nothing can kill her but me."

"What??" They both said in unison.

"Yeah. It's a curse. This happened during the war..."

(Author's POV)
(Eight hundred years ago)

Once upon a time...

There was a village named Eden, a few miles away from which there was a dense forest where many wild animals lived. In that forest, there was a strange mysterious well. But this was no mystery for the villagers because they knew that this was not just a well but a portal. A portal that connects two different worlds. Outside the world of humans and inside the world of vampires.

The world inside the well was not very different from the world of humans. Their world also had everything just like humans - villages, shops, houses, families etc. The only difference was that the creatures living there were vampires.

These vampires used to come out of the portal at night to hunt in the human world but humans had no problem with this and they were not afraid either because they knew that not all vampires are bad and they do not remain thirsty for blood all day. They need blood once in two to three months. Most vampires used to hunt animals only and those who killed a few humans, they used to kill only the bad people, not any innocent.

BUT...

Time passed and slowly some vampires who drink human blood started turning evil. Sometimes they would scare humans and sometimes they would try to hurt them without any reason. Gradually the terror of these evil vampires kept on increasing and now they started killing humans without any reason, due to which a war broke out between humans and vampires.

Humans already knew that these blood sucking monsters are not immortal and can be killed. Only their lifespan is many times more than that of humans and they never grow old. They had also made many tools to kill vampires which were wooden daggers made from the world's strongest wood, red oak wood. Since the body of a vampire is stronger and their ability to heal wounds is also many times more, this is the only tool that can pierce their heart. They had not used these weapons till date because till now vampires had not caused any harm to humans, but when their terror gradually increased, then humans started killing them.

At night, when they come out of the portal to hunt, humans attack them and kill them. They do not wait to see whether the vampire has come to kill a human or an animal. No matter how weak humans were compared to vampires, victory was on their side because their numbers were many times more than that of vampires.

After many vampires were killed, their terror gradually decreased and now they rarely came out of the portal. But humans were not the ones to sit quietly and wanted to destroy their entire species, so they crossed the portal to their world in large numbers and started a massacre.

It was the war that caused humans and vampires to become enemies, and it was the war that took the lives of Enzo's parents.

"Mama, I'm scared." Eight years old Enzo told his mother out of fear.

"Everything will be okay baby. Go to your room and take your sister along too." She said while wiping her tears.

"Aurora, let's go" Enzo said to his six years old sister who said, "Okie big brother but you have to play monkey-monkey with me." They both giggled and went to their room.

"When? When will all this end?" Enzo's mother, Divina asked.

"It won't stop." His father, David said.

"We never did anything wrong. We never killed anyone then why are we getting punishment for doing nothing?" She yelled.

"Divina, this is a war. War never sees who is guilty and who is not. It only wants blood, dead bodies and painful screams." He said.

"I will not let any harm come to my children. I'm going to perform the ritual. Right now." She said while picking up an ancient book.

"Are you out of your mind? They will be cursed." He yelled.

"At least they will be ALIVE." She yelled back and tears started flowing from her eyes.
