Everyone knows life comes with ups and downs, but nobody thinks the worst of downs can happen to them. Downs that are so down they can no longer see any ups. Sicknesses, poverty and loss of loved ones to name a few. These are things they see all around. They see them and never think that they can happen to them.

And sometimes people get phone calls when they're happy. And then they're not happy.

It was a good morning. Jungkook was content. He had managed to make Taetae enjoy the previous day and when he awoke he had found him nestled in his arms, looking more at peace than he'd ever seen the boy. It was only obvious that Taetae was happy and untroubled by his many burdens. He was only a boy and nothing else.

Jungkook was thinking of the day ahead. What else would he do for the boy? What would he plan? And when would it be a good time for V to come out to get to see him once more before Taehyung had to front?

He expected he would be having an eventful day... a good, eventful day. The last thing he expected was the day he got.

It was a call from Dr. Han that forced him to leave the bed, a wretched phone call that made him leave his and Taetae's warm bubble.

He didn't speak much. He didn't get to.

A photo was sent to his phone. He was called in.

His heart fell. He knew. He just knew. It was over.

It was happening to him. One of those downs where there's no hope for ups. He just knew it.

If he were to explain, it would be hard to put into words. It was one of those things that was difficult to describe or understand unless it is experienced.

It feels like a current moving through the body, one that renders you useless, shocks you into a state of disbelief. Your mind rejects it, it doesn't even register it. And all you can think is that this is not real, this cannot be happening, this is impossible... there is no reality in which this could be real and one day you'll be okay again. Where there were open fields, now there's a tunnel; one that has no light and no end in sight. Jungkook was frozen in place.

"Taetae. I need you to wake up baby." – Jungkook said, his voice unsure and insecure. He shook Taetae a couple of times and the boy opened his eyes.

"Kookie? Why are you up?" – He asked as he rubbed his eye and yawned.

"I need you to get Taehyung. Bring him out."

Jungkook sounded worried, but there was finality in his words. Taetae had learned to read signals long ago, and Jungkook's demeanor spoke of one thing – emergency. But he couldn't help asking, he needed to know.

"But, why? We still have one day before he has to come out."

"I know, but I need to leave right now and I'm not going to leave you on your own. Please. I'm sorry we have to cut it short again, but we have to. I'm going to get dressed real quick. Please have Taehyung out until I'm done."

"But-"

"Taetae. I can't explain. I don't have the time." Jungkook went to the boy hurriedly; he grabbed his face and kissed his forehead. "I'm so sorry baby, but I need you to listen to me. Don't be too sad, we'll see each other soon yea?"

Taetae nodded. What else could he do? Questions had to wait. And Jungkook was already running left and right, putting on articles of clothing one after the other. He was busy with a sock when he heard his name.

"Jungkook. What's wrong?"

"Taehyung?"

Jungkook sounded vulnerable. Taehyung had know that his whole life. He'd recognize it anywhere.

"Yea. Do you want to tell me what's going on?" Taehyung asked with as much care as he could. Whatever it was, it seemed to be serious.

"Not really. But I don't have a choice. It concerns you too." He said as he finished up with wearing his shoes and was ready to leave. He approached Taehyung, head hung, almost ashamed. It was not a good look on the man. Jungkook was folding in on himself.

"You're freaking me out Jungkook." Taehyung had a habit of that. And it would serve neither of them.

"I'm doing enough of that for the both of us actually." Jungkook's breath hitched. He got his phone out of his pocket, unlocked it to reveal a photo; a photo that he expects will ignite a severe reaction in and from Taehyung.

It was a photo a young girl at an amusement park. It seemed like your normal photo, but in the background, clear as day, it was them. Taehyung saw himself smiling and Jungkook had his hand on his face as he smiled right back at him. But that wasn't Taehyung. He never went to an amusement park with Jungkook.

"I know this looks... suggestive. I took Taetae there to have fun. I'm always careful... I don't have too much time to go into detail now. I got called in. Dr. Han is expecting me. But I was only putting his mask back on. I'm sorry for any trouble I might've gotten you with this. If you'll allow me, I'll apologize properly later."

Only when he got the last word out did Jungkook dare to look up at Taehyung's face. But he could not decipher what emotion the man was portraying. Or maybe he wasn't in his right mind to be able to.

"I'm really sorry Taehyung."

Then Jungkook was gone.
