*Shadow's POV *
"Do we have to go out? Can't we just stay here?" He asked once he was up. I moved closer to him and examined the back of his head where he'd hit himself. He was fine. Who even has a coffee table so close to the couch anyway?

"It's our first date." I said as I looked away. Saying those words made my stomach turn, I wasn't used to it. I was just following what Rouge told me to do, and she said the first date is that it's best to go to a movie.

Sonic's muzzle turned a light shade of pink when I said that. I walked to the door and waited for him. He gave in instantly and followed me, but he was quieter than usual. Not great. I needed him to say something, I was nervous.

"Shadow." Sonic said as he stopped walking after we left the house. I stopped as well and looked at him. "I'm scared. The last time I went out, I nearly got stabbed by a stranger."

"What?" I said angrily. He hadn't told me about this. Why hadn't he told me about this?

I took in a deep breath to remain calm and hesitated at first, but I reached for his hand and pulled him closer to me. "They're not going to hurt you, I promise." Feeling his hand on mine felt strange, I'd held him before, even hugged him when he was crying, but now, it was different.

*Sonic's POV*
He didn't let go. Even when we started walking in crowded areas, he held my hand. I felt flustered but happy, I could feel how hot my face was already.

Shadow and I were currently in line to get popcorn when a guy suddenly shoved me forward. I gasped and lowered my ears lightly, hissing when I hit my stomach against the counter. NOW, Shadow let go of my hand.

He grabbed the guy by the collar of his shirt and pushed him against the wall as he started growling furiously. "Let me tell you something." He summoned a chaos spear with his free hand.

I stayed in the corner, not moving. At this point, I was done defending everyone. But I watched.

"That's my boyfriend." My heart skipped a beat when Shadow said that. Chaos, I didn't think my blush could get worse.

"I-Im sorry. I'm sorry. I didn't know!" The guy shouted in his defense as he raised his hands, pleading Shadow to not hurt him, then he looked at me. "Aren't you going to do anything?"

"Why should he help you when you're already making him a villain?" Shadow said in my defense, and I couldn't help but smile.

Shadow never really cared about what people said about him. No one even tried to bother him like they did with me.

"Apologize." Shadow raised the chaos spear to his neck. "Now!"

"I'm sorry!" The guy looked at me as he kept shouting. "I'm sorry! It won't ever happen again!" The spear disappeared, but I wasn't paying attention anymore as I started ordering the popcorn and our drinks.

"Get out of here." I heard Shadow say, Then he walked towards me. "Are you okay?" He took out his wallet and paid before I could.

"I'm okay. Thank you for that, Shadz." I smiled at him. "Also, I could have paid."

"You don't have a job, hedgehog." He carried the drinks while I carried the popcorn and ate some. I felt a little lighter, less stressed out about being I public. I felt safe.

"So? You may own a company now, but you're forgetting who helped you with that. My mother, he queen, I'm a prince? Remember? Rich." I chuckled softly.

"Right. Must have forgotten. You never act like one." Shadow said many me laugh.

"I can. I just prefer to be myself." We sat down on our seats. There was no on in the theater yet, so we kept talking.

"That's good." Shadow hummed and passed me my drink.

"Can I ask you something?" I said as I grabbed a popcorn and moved it so I could feed him. Shadow looked at my hand and then raised a brow. "Oh, come on. Open your mouth."

"No." He looked away, making me get an idea. My heart beat rapidly at it.

I got slightly up on the chair and moved closer to Shadow, then made him look at me. He looked confused until I leaned closer to him. I was holding his chin so he wouldn't look away and could feel him tense up once he saw how close we were.

"Soni-" His ears perked up when I put a popcorn in his mouth, and I sat back down. He looked at me with a glare as he chewed the popcorn I fed him.

My heart was pounding, and I had my ears dropped, I couldn't believe I did that. I laughed softly when I saw Shadow still glaring at me but immediately stopped when he grabbed my neck and pulled me closer. His lips were on mine before I knew it, the rest of the world disappearing instantly.

He moved his hand behind my neck and kept me close, unable to pull away, but I didn't want to. I melted at his touch and kissed back as soon as the shock of it went away. Shadow moved the middle arm rest and pulled me closer in his arms. We finally pulled away when we heard people start to walk in the theater.

Shadow didn't say anything. He just grabbed popcorn and ate some as we watched the ads. I was trying my hardest not to look at him again, I could feel my heart about to burst out. I really hadn't expected Shadow to act like that. I guess he didn't like being teased.

I couldn't help but smile, I finally had what I wanted. I had the freedom to do whatever I wanted, I was able to rest, and I had someone who would protect me just as much as I used to protect others.
