The battlefield lay in tatters. Smoke drifted across the broken stone of the arena, its once-pristine tiles now scorched and cracked from the chaos Majin Buu had unleashed. Fighters groaned where they lay. Cross's mechanical dragon form stood motionless, cables and conduits sparking where her systems had failed. Her glowing eyes were dim, her body frozen in time.

Majin Buu floated lazily overhead, belly distended from overeating energy. He yawned, a loud, obnoxious sound that echoed across the hushed arena.

"Boooooring," he grunted. "You guys are too weak. I'm gonna take a nap. Tomorrow, we fight again."

With a casual flip, he drifted into the sky and vanished like a pink balloon caught in the wind.

Capsule Corp. - Emergency Lab

Bulma sat in the dimly lit room beside Cross, who had been hooked into a vast tangle of machines. The mechanical dragon's wings were folded tightly, tail limp, her entire body unmoving. Screens displayed flatlined vitals and red warnings in five languages. The air was filled with the hum of life support modules running overtime.

Bulma stared at her reflection in one of the monitors, eyes sunken from exhaustion.

Vegeta stood at the doorway, arms crossed. "You gonna sit there all night, or are you gonna fix her?"

"I broke her, remember?" Bulma muttered.

He didn't answer. He didn't need to.

Bulma opened a secured hard drive, hands trembling slightly. She navigated through old files, past video logs and system diagnostics, until she found the scans from Namek: full breakdowns of Cross's mech anatomy, recorded while she had studied her, when she broke her the last time. She bit her lip.

"I still have her backups," she said, more to herself than him. "If I reroute the command interface, if I use the right feedback loop, I can rebuild the neuro-matrix. Maybe..."

Earth, Outskirts of West City

Goku stretched, watching Trunks and Goten fail another fusion attempt. They puffed up into a short, bloated form.

"Too much toe point," Goku said. "Again!"

Videl watched from the edge of the training field, arms crossed, her body still aching. The Ultra Ego spark within her flickered with irritation.

Capsule Corp. - Operating Room

"The only chance she has to survive," Bulma said, turning to Gohan and Krillin, who stood nearby, "is if I use all our equipment ti keep her lungs breaking, her heart beating, manually."

"Are you sure it'll work?" Gohan asked.

Bulma didn't answer. She hit the override. "It has to..."

Then, her mechanical chest expanded with a gasp. She breathed. Her claws twitched.

And in a low, rasping mechanical voice, she whispered:

"...Thank you."

Bulma turned away, tears in her eyes.

"Don't thank me yet. We still have work to do."

Above the City

Majin Buu snored atop a broken skyscraper, curled up like a child, his breath blowing away passing clouds.

Back at Capsule Corp, Bulma pulled her goggles on, activated her diagnostic tools, and dove into the systems with purpose.

Goten and Trunks failed another fusion attempt and faceplanted into the dirt.
