Crowned in Defiance
At the tournament grounds...
The arena is nearly destroyed. Blood, broken tiles, and scattered debris mark the battlefield.
Videl—no, Majin Videl— stands at the center, chest heaving, sweat beading her forehead but her eyes still sharp with rage. The crown of the tournament is offered to her with trembling hands.
The announcer barely gets the words out:
"Ladies and gentlemen... our champion—"
Videl rips the crown out of his hand.
Her aura flares.
Her voice cracks like a whip.
"This doesn't mean anything. I'm still not satisfied.
You said this was the strongest in the world? Then send me your best. I want to fight someone who's actually worth the title."
The crowd recoils. Fear pulses. A few weaker fighters try to sneak off the field. Others stand frozen. Her eyes sweep the field, daring anyone to rise.
Tien, Krillin, Android 17, and Nappa exchange glances. She's strong—and unstable. They step into the ring not to hurt her but to contain her. She might be their friend, but she's a danger now.
"Let's play her little game," Krillin mutters.
"Before she decides to take the crowd with her," Tien adds grimly.
Meanwhile, on the World of the Kais...
Gohan breathes in. His form is sharp. Muscles coiled. Sweat drips off his chin as he practices Z-Sword katas, the blade impossibly heavy but strangely invigorating.
He swings again. And again. Every movement channels divine energy. But the sword feels like it's resisting—as if testing him.
Suddenly—
Pop.
Goku appears. "We came as soon as we got your message, Gohan!"
Gohan spins mid-swing—
CRACK!
The Z-Sword shatters across Goku's shoulder like porcelain.
Everyone freezes. Shin gasps. Kibito reels. Cross's eyes go wide.
"Did... Did you just break the ancient training weapon of the gods?" Shin blurts, halfway between laughter and panic.
A strange energy erupts from the broken sword as a wizened, hunched old man emerges from the magical remnants.
Elder Kai has arrived.
"I've been stuck in that thing for over a thousand years! Thanks for the rescue—and the backache."
Cue the info dump:
Majin Buu is ancient.
Created by a warlock.
Destruction incarnate.
The sealing was never perfect—more like a bandage.
Babidi seeks to finish what his father started.
And then Elder Kai says:
"If Buu's already stirring, that means it's too late to stop him waking up.
What you need to do now... is prepare for war."
The tournament grounds were in ruins.
Videl stood alone in the center of the shattered ring, chest heaving, her aura burning violet. The jagged M burned bright on her forehead, and her once-black hair shimmered with a purplish tint, as if it had been dipped in sunset. Her eyes—no longer brown—glowed with an eerie shade of indigo.
Around her, the Z Fighters lay broken and stunned. Krillin was barely conscious. Tien groaned, clutching his side. Nappa, tough as ever, had taken the worst of it to protect the crowd and was trying to crawl toward Videl, only for a flick of her energy to pin him in place.
"I'm not done!" she growled. "I beat all of you, and I still don't feel satisfied."
She pointed at the empty sky.
"I want the best. I want Gohan. Send him to me."
World of the Kais
Gohan's hand trembled on the hilt of the Z Sword. He had stopped mid-swing.
"That energy..."
Kibito and Shin had gone silent.
Elder Kai rubbed his chin. "This isn't Majin Buu. That power is... unusual. Tainted. But familiar."
Gohan took a step forward. "It's Videl. She's... she's hurting people. She's been possessed."
Before anyone could speak again—
Pop!
Goku was gone.
Cross growled, throwing up her hands. "Goku! Seriously, you can't just run off like—"
Pop!
She vanished too.
Shin turned to Gohan. "You're the one she wants. You may be the only one she'll listen to."
Gohan nodded. Kibito stepped forward, placing two fingers to his forehead.
Ka-kai!
Back on Earth – Tournament Grounds
The crowd had fled. Emergency crews were hovering at the edges, unsure if they should even try to intervene.
Videl, pulsing with power, cracked her knuckles. Her grin was wild.
"I know you're coming, Gohan. I know. You're the only one left who hasn't tried to hold me down."
A flicker of light—
Ka-kai!
Gohan appeared just outside the crater. His eyes widened at the sight of his friends, scattered and broken around the ring.
"Videl... what happened to you?"
Her face twitched, a mixture of fury and joy. "They treated me like a joke. Like I was you're girlfriend. Like I was just Mr. Satan's daughter."
"You're more than that," Gohan said gently. "You always have been."
"THEN FIGHT ME!" she roared.
He stepped forward, fists clenched. "I will. But only to stop you from hurting anyone else."
Elsewhere – Babidi's Ship
Pop!
Goku appeared inside the dim, humming halls of Babidi's ship. His eyes narrowed.
Standing ahead, waiting, were Dabura... and several other Majin fighters.
And behind them all, pulsing with ancient pink malice, a hulking figure stepped from the shadows.
Majin Buu had awakened.
