The Crown and the Curse
The battlefield was cracked, scorched, and trembling with energy.
Videl stood in the center of the arena, chest heaving, fists clenched. Her short hair whipped around in the wind generated by the aura radiating off her. The Majin mark on her forehead gleamed with power, and her deep violet eyes narrowed as she stared down Gohan. Around them, the Z-Fighters lay bruised, battered, and unconscious, only held together thanks to last-minute healing from Senzu derivatives.
Gohan took a step forward. "Videl... please. I don't want to fight you."
She gritted her teeth. "Then get out of the ring."
"You know I can't do that. You're not yourself right now."
Videl scoffed. "Maybe this is myself. Maybe I'm tired of being the one treated like a girl who needs protection."
Gohan sighed and transformed. Golden light flared around him as he ascended to Super Saiyan. He took a stance, and with a soft breath, charged forward.
Their fists collided. The crowd, now watching from Babidi's ship via magical projection, gasped as the shockwaves blasted outward. Blow for blow, Gohan clearly held back, dodging more than he hit. Videl fought like a demon unleashed, every strike filled with frustration, every glare more intense.
"You're going easy on me!" she screamed.
"I don't want to hurt you!"
"Then you're not fighting me!"
She struck him in the chest. Gohan staggered. Her ki flared again—deeper, darker. Her hair shifted, a deeper purple hue creeping into the tips. Her aura turned wild, crackling violently. Gohan's eyes widened.
"Ultra Ego," Shin muttered from the sidelines. "That's impossible... not for a mortal."
"She's feeding off pain," Elder Kai said grimly. "And pride. Every blow just makes her stronger."
Gohan sighed again. "Fine. You want me to stop holding back?"
He flared again. Super Saiyan 2 erupted in lightning. Videl was undeterred. Their clash intensified. She took every blow, face bloodied, body battered, and stood up again, snarling.
"I'm not giving up! Not to you! Not to anyone!"
Gohan's heart broke. "Then... I'm sorry."
His form shimmered, shifting. The golden light gave way to something older, deeper. Crimson fur crawled over his limbs. A feline tail curled behind him. His eyes went feral, slitted like a great predator. He had become something ancient: a controlled Ozaru, red-furred and regal. A warrior cat, standing against chaos.
Even so, Videl still fought. Her rage was monumental. Each attack was an act of defiance. Until finally, she fell. Gohan knelt by her, placing a hand gently on her arm.
"It's okay. You don't have to keep fighting."
Her fingers twitched.
Meanwhile—
Over on Babidi's ship, chaos bloomed.
As soon as Cross drew her phone, her Applichanger X, spinning it with flair as she prepared to change Dabura spit.
"ToQ Cha..." She paused, batting the spit with her free hand, glaring, "Seriously? This is how you open a fight? With spit?"
Her body felt stiff, Goku looked over with horror, "Cross..."
Cross's 's body hardened quick, flesh to stone, caught mid-transformation by Dabura's spit. Her Applichanger hung uselessly from her statue form. Goku, stunned, barely had time to react before Dabura came at him with a blade.
"You left yourself open," Dabura hissed.
Before Goku could counter, another energy slammed into him. Bulma descended from above, clad in Cross's stolen Wildcat form. Her Majin symbol burned brightly through the helmet. A quick glance over to Cross saw the changer was missing from her stone hand.
"What the hell—Bulma?!"
"No more sidelines," she said with a dark smile. "No more watching from the tower. I want to see what it's like to be one of you."
She and Dabura launched into a tag-team assault on Goku. Energy blasts flew in all directions. Babidi laughed madly from his floating platform.
"YES! Break him! Rip him apart!" Babidi cackled. "Everyone, everyone! Witness the true power of my Majin warriors!"
He raised his arms.
And in a sudden pulse of magic, every spectator—every fighter, every civilian, everyone from the World Tournament—was teleported to Babidi's platform.
The crowd screamed in panic. The remaining Z-Fighters scrambled to form a perimeter. Shin and Kibito tried to calm the chaos.
And through it all...
Majin Buu stood.
Massive. Round. Silent.
Watching.
Not yet smiling.
But something in his gaze changed as he turned toward the arena... and saw Videl and Gohan.
A tiny, amused grin curled on the creature's pink lips.
