The Red Dragon Ranger

Five years had passed since the defeat of Cell. With Planet Vegeta restored and Cross once again traveling between worlds, the dragon world—through the management of Capsule Corp and the new king—began to see regular travel and trade between worlds. Gohan, physically 18 due to his time in the Room of Spirit and Time but legally only 16 based on his ID, had entered school. Ever the studious scholar, he was able to skip a grade and reach his junior year of high school.

When not in school, he spent his free time as the Red Dragon Ranger, a mysterious figure who operated as Earth's guardian in Cross' absence.

Vegeta and Nappa, with thanks to Bulma's connections, began training Earth's military in preparation for any future threats like Cell or Frieza. The top among the soldiers were even wished into Saiyan forms. A special Galaxy Line station was built on the revived Planet Vegeta, tying the two worlds even closer despite the expanse of space. While these new Saiyans lacked the pride and history of the true-born, they at least started to see the race rise from extinction to endangered.

An offhand comment from Krillin during a day trip to Planet Vegeta sparked other revelations. While the planet had been destroyed by Frieza, some Saiyans were still in healing tanks, their bodies preserved. With the help of Bulma and the dragons, these Saiyans were revived, adding a subsect of survivors who could preserve the original culture alongside the Earth-born hybrids.

Additionally, with the planet restored and renewed contact with Earth, a Namekian guardian was appointed, giving Planet Vegeta its own Dragon Balls.

Yamcha took his talents to baseball, his strength and speed leading to home run after home run and strikeout after strikeout. With the money he earned, he funded an orphanage so no other child would wind up a test subject like 17 and 18.

Krillin and 18 were married, with Krillin joining the police academy. Meanwhile, Goku and Raditz grew closer, training together by traveling between worlds. They worked as Galaxy Line protectors, a paying gig that kept Chi-Chi happy as well.

All in all, it was several years of peace, with wishes passed across three dragons, sprinkled with prosperity.

But despite everything, one day, Videl—daughter of the world champion Mr. Satan—uncovered Gohan's secret identity as the Red Dragon Ranger and demanded he teach her to fly and harness ki.

And he did, right up until the day of the next Tenkaichi Budokai—the World Martial Arts Tournament...

——————-

As the day of the tournament dawned, the air buzzed with excitement and anticipation. Fighters from all corners of the world gathered, each eager to prove their strength and skill. Among them was a mysterious figure, cloaked in a simple robe, who seemed to draw the attention of even the most seasoned warriors.

Gohan, now accustomed to his dual life as a high school student and the Red Dragon Ranger, felt a strange energy as he entered the tournament grounds. He glanced around, his eyes narrowing as he spotted the cloaked figure. There was something different about this person, something that set them apart from the rest.

The preliminary rounds flew by, with Gohan easily advancing through each match. His mind, however, kept drifting back to the mysterious figure. It wasn't until the final rounds that he finally got a closer look.

The figure stepped forward, removing their hood to reveal a youthful face with striking, otherworldly features. His eyes, a deep shade of purple, seemed to hold ancient wisdom and power. He introduced himself as Shin, the Supreme Kai.

"Greetings, warriors," Shin began, his voice calm yet commanding. "I have come to this tournament not just to observe, but to seek your aid. A great evil is stirring, one that threatens not just this world, but the entire universe."

The crowd murmured in confusion and curiosity. Gohan stepped forward, his curiosity piqued. "What kind of evil are we talking about?"

Shin's expression grew serious. "An ancient being known as Majin Buu. Sealed away long ago, his power is immense and his hunger for destruction insatiable. I fear that the seal binding him is weakening, and if he is released, it could spell disaster for all."

As Shin spoke, a series of strange, powerful fighters began to emerge from the waiting area.

"Enough of this superhero nonsense! If you two aren't going to fight, step aside so the rest of us can," one of the loud fighters, Povich, demanded.

Gohan and Shin nodded, stepping aside so the Kai could further explain the details to Gohan. Gohan was already whipping out his transformation cellular, trying to get Cross and his father on the line, who were across dimensions doing God knows what.

Attention filled the arena as Povich stepped into the ring with Gohan's new girlfriend, Videl, daughter of the champion himself, Mr. Satan.

The following beatdown was brutal, unnecessarily so, and Videl was left coughing and battered on the ground. Gohan rushed to her side to feed her a Senzu bean. Another innovation since Cross's departure was the mass production of Senzu beans, or at least a variant of them—not as good as Karin's, but certainly good enough to get Videl and most fighters healed and back on their feet at roughly 90% capacity.

As Gohan, or rather the Red Dragon Ranger, tried to maintain his anonymity, he still fussed over his new girlfriend. She, in turn, tried to reassure him that she was fine, especially after being healed. They looked back to the arena, where more of these brutal fighters continued to tear their way through the rankings. Gohan once again had to give the fighters beans.

Then, before he even understood what was going on, they ambushed him, stabbing a strange device into his back that seemed to drain all the energy out of him. It even broke his transformation, revealing his face to the arena. The attack was so fast that no one got a clear look at his face. The tournament didn't allow helmets, and he had gone in wearing a luchador-style mask to protect his identity. But these Majin fighters, having gotten what they wanted, simply turned and flew out of the arena at a rapid pace.

Gohan tried to pursue, but Shin caught his arm. "You're not strong enough to face Babidi and Buu, especially after that little stunt. Come with me to the world of the Kais, Earth's champion. We need to make you stronger."

Gohan hated having to leave, especially after Videl had been so brutally hurt, but he understood the practicality. He lined his cellular up with the fleeing fighters, letting the device get a lock on them, and then sent the data off to his father so they could track the signal when they arrived. He hoped they would be strong enough to do what he could not.
