The Incident: Book 7, Part 3. .

W/ Jace and Kennon.

Setting: It was morning now, the sun shining bright over the trees, now illuminating their path.

Jace's POV/1st Person:

It feels like we're back to the drawing board. I don't know what was in that fish, but it certainly wasn't good for him. And now look what happened, I turn away for less than a minute and he's already done something incredibly stupid. Just when we had it together, this happens. Why can't he just listen for once? I sigh, and Kennon just stares at me blankly. "Where Am pI." He says. I Seriously just want to smack him right now. I inhale then exhale, attempting(And mostly failing) To compose myself. "We're In the woods, there's no more humanity around. All gone, all right?" I answered sharply. 'Or at least from what we've seen... we haven't even found our friends yet, but we can't focus on them anymore. They're probably dead.' I thought to myself, Before he scoffs. "Why did humanity get wiped out?" Kennon says, still questioning. It really started to grate my nerves. I was trying to be as understanding as possible, but his constant back-to-back questions were really getting the best of me. "Look, I don't know, okay? Just trust me. We need to leave." I Say. I simply ended the questioning session and took him by the hand, to

my surprise, he wasn't fighting back.. Just casually following my lead. I let my shoulders sag in relief. At Least he wasn't being resistant anymore. This was going to be a whole lot easier now.

Later on, Jace and Kennon had gotten out of the woods, walking by a body of water and a half-torn down auto repair shop.

No One's POV/3rd Person:

"Well, Aren't we Lucky? Try to find shelter and all we get is this." Jace says To herself, muttering. Kennon zoned out, looked at the auto-repair shop as if he was a deer caught in the headlights. Jace looks at him, worry, confusion and concern etched on her face. "Dude, what's wrong? Why are you being weird on top of already weird? Kinda creeping me out. Like, I know you're all disoriented and all that.. But.." she pauses. Kennon shakes his head. "I have a bad feeling about this place. We shouldn't be here. We need to go. Like now." Kennon attempts to Leave but Jace grabs him before he could walk any further. Slightly frustrated, she glares at him. "No. No. we aren't leaving. And you don't get to make decisions with your current state of mind." Jace says, before Kennon just side-eyes her and sighs. ".....Fine. but this place already looks like it's up to no good just by the looks of it." Kennon says as they start to walk towards the partially destroyed auto repair shop. As they entered, it was dark. And objects and furniture were flipped over like a tornado had ran through it. And that's when they heard rustling down the dark, and what felt like an endless hall. They both tense up. "Please don't tell me that's what I think it is." Jace says. Kennon raises a brow. "Who?" he says. Jace looks at him. His memory loss was really starting to grate on her nerves. She sighs. "Not 'Who', 'It'." She responds coldly. Before pulling out a knife. And unfortunately, for them.. It was indeed a capybara. It wasn't charging at them, though, even though they were standing right infront of it. Jace raises a brow and squints. "What?..." she realized something weird about its eyes, they were blank and cloudy, and its mannerisms were weird. "Hold up.. Is it.. BLIND?" Jace says, and Kennon decides to take a closer look. The Capybara must've picked up on his scent because it immediately lunged towards him, Jace steps in and stabs the capybara through the jugular. It didn't seem to work. It just seemed to ever so slightly weaken it, now, it was on top of Kennon, blindly snapping at his face in an attempt to kill him. Kennon grimaced, trying to hold the capybaras' jaws as far as he could. "Try the head!-" Kennon strained out, and Jace nodded, stabbing the capybara right in the headIt with a sickening squelch. The cloudy, milky eyes relaxed, as it fell limp atop Of Kennon. She then withdraws the knife and pulls Kennon from underneath the capybara. "You good?" she says. He pauses for a moment, And nods. "Yeah. Yeah, I think I'm alright." Kennon mumbles. She helps him stand up. "Do you even think we should continue to look around?" Jace says. He shrugs. "I'm only just following you. Whatever you think is best." Kennon says cluelessly with a hint of forced nonchalance. Jace sighs. "Right.. Well, We should just rest here and then start back up later." Jace says. Kennon gave a relieved sigh as he settled down. "Maybe this'll be a break from this weird situation, That's If I even get sleep at all." Jace thought to herself, as she used her backpack as a pillow, laying down, facing up at the bright blue sky. It was definitely going to be hard going to sleep, but she at least hoped Kennon would get some sleep. All of this must've taken a toll on him, if not 10x worse, because She knows he's a lot more frustrated than she is about this. His memory loss, being separated, just.. Everything. It felt like everything was against them in this kind of world, and they barely even had each other. Her mind drifts back to the day they all got split up. How confident she had gotten, thinking that they could've easily taken down those Capybaras .. Only for them to just all get obliterated in seconds. She started to feel like it was her fault they had gotten split up. It was her idea for them to engage the Capybara Don't be a coward, she had told them. Then she saw Mya and Julian get taken away so ruthlessly. We can pretty much take them down as long as we have weapons, no? Jace had looked back on what she had said. She starts to feel like that... Maybe she's the reason why they aren't no longer together as a group. And If they had gotten hurt or killed.. It would be because of her. It's always going to be because of her.

To Be continued.
