As Jennie was fast asleep, probably dreaming of something far from reality, Bear continued to drive the car on a more secluded road. The cars on the road continued to decrease the more he drove off, but the car behind them kept following them.

Why?

As far as Bear knew, Jennie had no enemies that could put her in such a situation. He would understand it if it was Lisa because the man's status was enough for him to be a target. But Jennie? Or did she make an enemy which she just hadn't told anyone about?

Considering Jennie's 'real' colors, it wouldn't be surprising if the answer was the latter.

'It still doesn't make sense,' Bear thought as his other hand let go of the steering wheel. 'It could be this is like another Andrea Ng incident.'

Bear shoved his hand inside his suit, taking out a pair of black leather gloves. Without taking his eyes off the road, he put on the gloves carefully. While doing so, he was thinking of reasons why it seemed Jennie was being targeted before he could confront these people.

Just like Andrea Ng, this person's original target was Marco Manoban, Lisa's father. Following the unspoken rule in the underground, it was always an eye for an eye. Since Marco was the person in charge of the LYON Group seventeen years ago, Andrea Ng targeted Lisa Manoban, so Marco could understand the loss of a loved one.

However, Lisa Manoban was already untouchable. Therefore, Andrea Ng set her eyes on Jennie to hurt Lisa Manoban's reputation. Andrea could've targeted Jevin, but fortunately, she had a little bit of integrity left and didn't want to hurt children.

This situation could be the same.

After all, Jennie told Bear that Lisa was in danger and even concluded her life might be put in danger again. Back then, Bear just followed her orders just to see where this would lead him.

But now...

Bear glanced at the rear mirror once again to see Jennie sleeping soundlessly. 'It turned out her assumptions were correct.'

Andrea Ng's case didn't just end with her. Putting her in jail was just cutting out the weed, but not the roots.

Bear kept his hand on the steering wheel while he held the other on his side. He flexed his fingers, opening and closing them again as a warm-up exercise. Now that he was stretching his hand, it showed how unrealistically big his hands were.

When Bear reached a road that only a few cars drive by, he slowed down and pulled over. As soon as the vehicle stopped, he looked back at the back seat. Jennie was still asleep.

'I should just let her sleep,' he thought, thinking that she should stay asleep instead of watching things unfold.

Bear unbuckled his seat and turned his head to the side mirror. The vehicle that had been tailing them was still driving from a distance. Without any sign of fear, he went out of the driver's seat. He left the key in the car, locking the doors so no one — except him, who had a spare key in his pockets — could get inside unless Jennie opened it from the inside.

Bear walked over to the vehicle's bumper, sitting on it as he waited for the other vehicle to stop by. He was unarmed, and yet there wasn't even the tiniest trace of fear in his eyes.

Anything could happen at this point.

The vehicle might not stop and drive past them while shooting fire at them. That was not impossible, as those things happened in the past. It happened to them so many times he had lost count. Hence, he wasn't afraid even if someone showered them with bullets. All they have to do was make sure they put a hole in his head. Otherwise, they'd pay dearly.

He kept his eyes on the incoming vehicle from the distance, watching it come closer and closer. When it was a few seconds before reaching their car, Bear peeled his bottom from the bumper to stand in his towering stature.

Honk!

"Hmm?" Bear arched a brow when the car just honked at him and, without slowing down, it drove past them. He followed the car with his gaze, tilting his head to the side. "Were they unarmed?"

Deep lines appeared on Bear's forehead. He was certain that the vehicle was following them since they left the resort. He was also sure those people already realized Bear noticed their presence and thus lured them on this road.

But why did it just honk at him and then drove past him?

"That's strange." Bear blinked, still had his eyes in the direction where the car sped away. "Is that honk means they refused to confront us? Or did it mean they want us to know they'd been tailing us, but refuse any confrontation?"

It wasn't because they got intimidated by him, right?

Bear was unarmed, after all. But even so, Bear hadn't realized that no one in their sound mind would wait for someone tailing them, unarmed. No one in their sound mind would be able to keep a straight face with the thought of someone might shower them with bullets.

"Well... I guess that is better?"

Meanwhile...

"Haha..." a man chuckled as he listened to the person on the phone. "... so, he went out and waited for you guys?"

"Boss, this is not a laughing matter. Do you even know who that guy is?!" the voice from the other end of the line carried a tinge of frustration. "Even I was shocked when I recognized that damn old folk's face! He's insane, you know?!"

"Is he?"

"Goodness! Fortunately, I recognized him from afar. If I didn't, my head would've been crushed and we might not be talking right now!"

"Haha." the man sitting in a limousine chuckled. "Good thing you did then."

"Tsk. But is this okay? That man already knows someone was tailing them. He might set up a countermeasure and tell that to Lisa!"

"You shouldn't have honked."

"How can I not!? I was saying hello!"

The man leaned back, turning his head at the window to see Jung Lea approaching. "I don't think he will say anything to Lisa. Though I don't know why that man is working for him, considering he only worked for one person, lie low. Burn the vehicle."

"Who knows? That woman might have set her eyes on dearest Lisa. Anyway, don't call me. I have a date." The moment he said his piece, the man ended the call and hitched outside, welcoming Jung Lea with a smile.

"You came, Miss Jung." The man stepped aside, motioning his hand for her to get in. "Please."

Lea glanced at the man she just met today and cleared her throat before going in, not knowing the contempt in the man's eyes as soon as she turned her back.
