"Boss... you didn't have to lie to her." Lisa maintained a stony countenance, eyes down.
Why did he lie?
To be honest, Lisa was unsure himself. Perhaps he wanted to add more emotional and mental distress to the person who assaulted his wife. Or maybe he wanted her to lose her mind, believing her parent's murderer was walking free while she was locked up because she failed in her revenge plan. Either way, Lisa just wanted to hurt her for what she had done.
"Chief, make sure she regrets her actions every second of the day." Lisa cast the chief a stern look. "I don't care how you will do it for as long as she is breathing."
The chief looked at Lisa with a bit of surprise and then sighed, nodding. "Leave it to me. My men will know what to do. Is that all you want? For her to keep breathing?"
"That's all." Lisa walked away while the chief stayed on his spot, eyes on Lisa's back.
"It seemed we'll do a lot of reviving. I'll tell you once she's indicted, Mr. Manoban," said the chief but Lisa didn't look back.
"Thank you for your help, Chief. Please contact me about which prison she'll stay. We'll handle the development of the infirmary." Jisoo bowed at the chief. "We'll get going."
With that being said, Jisoo hurriedly followed his boss while the chief stayed in the same spot. A deep exhale slipped past his nostrils before slipping his hand inside his pocket as soon as it vibrated.
"Madam? What a surprise!" the chief placed the phone in front of his ear, curious about what order he would get from the old Madam of the Manoban Family. "I'm surprised you already heard about it — that's fast, but yes. The suspect was a survivor of the fire incident in Terra District. The young madam is fine, though she was injured."
The chief's brows rose as he glanced at where Lisa and Jisoo disappeared to. "Madam, I'm afraid I can't do that favor." He sighed, slipping his other hand inside his pocket.
"Mr. Manoban wanted her alive — breathing is the term he used." The chief smacked his lips and sucked air through his mouth. "You don't have to worry about your grandson, Madam. He's a grown man now and can settle things on his own. Though I'm a bit surprised at his request. I didn't expect he'd bare his teeth if provoked."
The chief listened to the person on the other side of the line before the line ended. He gazed at his phone, shaking his head while clicking his tongue continuously.
"I thought she's already bedridden?" he mumbled. "I'm glad I didn't rub the Manoban Family the wrong way in the past. That woman's temper just gets shorter as she aged. Well, I guess people grow bolder when they're about to kick the bucket."
He smacked his lips and gazed at the corridor once again. "Though I still can't believe how he made his order without blinking. I was almost on the brink of questioning if he was truly a Manoban — I guess he's just the more patient type, but still in the same category as his grandmother and father."

[The Manoban Family's Old Residence]
"Madam, you should let the young master handle these sorts of problems." Butler Fu sighed as he retrieved the phone from Old Madam Manoban's ear.
Old Madam Manoban, Lisa's grandmother, was having a coughing fit, making the butler sigh once more.
"You're already at the age to rest, madam. The young master is already a man, and he now has a family of his own," he continued, hoping the old madam would listen to him. "The young master will not be pleased if he gets wind that you were still in contact with the chief."
Old Madam Manoban removed her hand from her lips, casting Butler Fu a quick look. "Lisa is too soft. I was afraid he would forgive that person."
"Madam..."
"I'm glad he is starting to learn." Old Madam Manoban relaxed her body, turning her head to the window on the other side.
"Madam, are you glad the young master is resorting to such a degree?" Butler Fu frowned. "Why don't you let him lead the family in his way? He had proved himself time and time again that he is worthy of the position."
"Ernie... this isn't about trust, nor was it about his capabilities as a businessman. I know Lisa is capable. I raised him." Old Madam Manoban kept her wrinkly eyes on the window. "However, how can I leave this world in peace if I know deep in my heart Lisa underestimates the weight of his position as the head of this family?"
She slowly faced Butler Fu, a little exhausted, as it was already past her bedtime. Old Madam Manoban was already sleeping when Butler Fu came to her to deliver the news. As soon as she heard what happened, she contacted the chief of police to settle what needed to be settled. She was aware Lisa was there to do that, but Old Madam Manoban was afraid Lisa would let this slide.
"The Manoban Family is the Manoban Family," she continued with a tinge of pride in her tone. "And as the head of this family, he should learn what it means to protect what he needs to protect and how far one can go to do that duty."
The corner of her lips curled up subtly. "But I guess he is learning. It put my heart at ease to hear he dealt with the situation accordingly."
"Sometimes, I regret delivering this sort of news to you." Butler Fu sighed once more, shaking his head. "Madam, please rest now. You heard the chief. The young master's actions were satisfactory, albeit a little shocking. I didn't expect he'd go to such lengths to punish the young madam's assaulter."
"Heh." Old Madam Manoban chuckled, thinking about what happened and how it ended. Although she was unhappy Jennie got hurt, she was pleased Lisa had finally shown the qualities the Old Madam Manoban had been looking for as the head of the family.
"Prepare some ointments, teas, and some fruits for my little Jennie," Old Madam Manoban ordered as she closed her eyes to sleep. "We'll visit her tomorrow."
"Yes, Madam." Butler Fu bowed, not surprised that the retired elder of the family would finally go out of her den to visit her granddaughter-in-law.
