When Jennie agreed to marry Lisa, she cut everyone off except the persistent Jung Lea. She had to use most of her life savings to pay off the agency for breaching her contract; she dismissed her manager, her assistant, her glam team, and everyone with her behind the scenes.
She had a reason for that.
Jennie was so ashamed and scared that she didn't want others to know she got pregnant by a man she didn't know. Her marriage was something she considered a scandal. Thus, she chose to leave the industry quietly.
During that time, Jennie was not in the right state of mind. Fueled by the narcissistic and manipulative Jung Lea, Jennie believed everyone hated her, including her fans. Therefore, she didn't even look at her social media and muted all of them. She could've deleted the app, but somehow, she didn't for a reason even the original Jennie couldn't explain.
Perhaps, deep down, the original Jennie didn't delete them because she wanted to look at them once she was strong enough and ready. Unfortunately, she died even before she could muster the courage.
"Why did you think the world ended five years ago?" asked Jevin with genuine wonder in his voice. "Was it because you were ill?"
Jennie sighed. "Yes, because I was ill."
"You said it wasn't deadly."
"Jevy, my baby, mommy's sickness wasn't deadly, but it was fatal." Jennie ruffled her son's hair gently. "Although I'm fine now, I still can't help but regret most things. For instance, I regret not being able to show you how important you are to me."
"You don't have to feel sorry. I understand." Jevin shrugged. "What's important now is you're well. We can make up for all the years we missed."
"Sometimes, I can't help but think I'm the younger one here," she humored, chuckling. "I'm really thankful my Jevin is very understanding. How lucky!"
Jevin pressed his lips into a thin line, pleased at her remarks. However, he didn't know how to react or answer. Hence, he resorted to impressing her more.
"Are you planning to go back to acting?" he asked innocently. "I think it will be good to sell yourself by using your social media."
"Sell myself... what?"
"If you're thinking of going back to the scene, perhaps a rebranding will be a great first move."
"..."
"If you do, you don't have to go through the hassle of finding a proper agency to handle you. The agencies will fight for your signature."
Wait a minute.
"Considering you were on a five-year hiatus and left the scene without a word, I suggest you start posting more. Fans are surely curious about your life after five years. Showing off your luxury items will impress them. Moreover, it will raise your value as a public figure," he continued solemnly. "You don't have to shell out too much money, but if you think my suggestions are a bother, just tell Dad to sign you under LYON Networks. I'm sure roles and scripts will land on your lap — you just have to choose which one you want to take on."
Jennie felt slightly dizzy the more she listened to her son's ideas. Jevin's maturity and cleverness always amused her, but this was on an entirely different level! If not for his youthful and adorable voice, she would mistake him for an old man!
How could his brain come up with such a plan in a snap of a finger?!
"Jevy, have you always thought of mommy going back to work?" she blurted out as that was the first thing that came up in her mind.
"Yes." He nodded. "I wasn't sure when, but I knew you wouldn't just give up your career. After hearing you were ill all this time, my first guess solidified. After all, you loved acting."
At this point, Jennie didn't know how to respond. All she could do for the next full minute was stare at him.
"I'm impressed," she remarked with a shallow breath. "You surely think of my welfare so much. Thank you, Jevy."
Jennie patted his head gently. "Mommy is grateful, but I haven't decided on what to do just yet. I want to focus on you and Dad for now. Still, thank you for your suggestions. I will keep them in mind."
"I'm glad to help." The corner of his small lips curled up into a subtle smile. "Even if working will lessen our time together, I don't want to be the cause of your sadness."
Her heart at that instant melted as her eyes softened. Jevin was truly precious and the more she talked to him and know his thoughts, her eagerness to give the world to him heightened. She would give him the moon if he only ask.
"Jevy will never make me sad. Never." Jennie lowered her head, cupping his cheeks. She rested her forehead against his, eyes closed. "Jevy, I am lucky and blessed to have you as my son. Mommy is forever grateful for existing because I get to have you as my son."
Jevin's entire body froze, eyes wide. He looked at her and despite the little gap because her forehead was against his, he still caught the genuine smile on her face. His face soon softened as his cheek turned pinkish, smiling subtly.
"I'm glad..." He closed his eyes ever so slowly as he breathed out his next words, "Mommy."
Jennie drew her head back, smiling. "You finally called me Mommy," she pointed out, elated at how that word sounded on his lips.
When he reopened his eyes, he bit his inner lower lip. "Did it... sound strange?"
"No, honey." She shook her head, still cupping his face. "I love it — I can't even put the right words to describe how my heart felt full at the moment. Can you keep calling me like that from now on?"
There was a moment of silence between them before he nodded.
"Alright." He smiled slightly, holding her affectionate, soft eyes. "Mommy."
"That's my boy."
