"Mhm..." Jennie moaned as she peeked from her one eye, turning her head to the window. "Huh?"
She blinked until her vision was clearer, rubbing her eyes without realizing she still had makeup on. When she turned her head and saw that their car was entering the building parking space, Jennie immediately looked in the driver's seat.
"How was it?' her voice was a little coarse. "Did you ask them what they wanted?"
Was that really her first question?
Bear kept his eyes ahead and huffed quietly. "No, they didn't. They didn't even stop."
"What? Did you scare them off?"
"I didn't. I waited for them, but they only honked and drove past me."
"So, you did scare them off." Jennie rocked her head while Bear frowned.
"I didn't."
"Even I'd get scared if the person I'm targeting ends up waiting for me." Jennie shook her head as she stretched her body. "Anyway, I guess that's for the better."
This time, Bear glanced at the rear mirror only to see her eye makeup smeared around her eyes. She just woke up, but instead of looking fresh, she looked horrendous.
"Your make —"
"Anyway, don't tell this to Lisa." Jennie cut him off mid-sentence, smiling. "I don't want to worry him. I'm also scared he might employ more guards."
"Madam, isn't it better if you get more guards around you?" Bear just ignored her smudged makeup, distracted by her previous remarks. "Considering someone tailed us today, it is only natural to stay vigilant. Prevention had always been better than cure."
"I know, but that makes me feel I have no freedom at all." Jennie shrugged. "Moreover, if there were more eyes on me, means more witnesses to worry about."
More witnesses?! Just what the hell did this woman have planned in mind?
Jennie leaned back as she felt rather energized after a long sleep.
"Having you is enough," she added confidently, smiling at his back. "Anyway, my point is, I don't want to give Lisa unnecessary worry. As long as he is fine..."
Jennie took a deliberate pause as she glanced at the window. "... there's no need for him to know that a nightmare from the past is knocking on the doors of the present."
"Madam, how are you sure the person behind this is Marcus Manoban?" Bear blurted out, biting his tongue upon realizing he had been asking more and more questions as if he was interested.
"It's not Marcus Manoban, but someone who is connected to him." She shrugged. "That's why I asked you to find him for me. It is much better to know who is my enemy, so we can plan ahead."
We?
Bear's face turned blank at her usage of words. Why was she kept dragging him as if he already agreed to be an accomplice? As far as he knew, he was simply doing her one small favor, and the rest was part of his job.
"I'll contact my friend," said Bear, keeping his thoughts to himself. "I'll let you know once I got any information."
"No rush." Jennie prepared herself to hitch outside the car while the vehicle slowed down upon reaching the entrance of the building in the parking space.
She held the door handle and turned her head in the driver's seat direction.
"By the way, thanks for today and I'll see you around." Jennie opened the door, but just as she stepped her foot out, she looked back again. "Don't tell Lisa about the scene!"
"Madam —"
Jennie warned him for the last time, but before he could answer, she went out and slammed the door close. Bear was left speechless, watching her walk toward the entrance confidently.
"Your makeup..." he whispered, running his tongue across his inner cheek. "... I guess she'll see herself in the mirror. Well, she's just a few steps home. So, I guess that's fine."

Jennie entered the building confidently, knowing she was dolled up today. Although she already had a change of clothes, this was her first time wearing such an alluring makeup. She wanted to see Lisa's reaction.
"Hehe..." she giggled as she entered the lift, going straight to the penthouse. "I bet he'll get hard if I wink at him."
She was acting as if her life wasn't in danger just a few hours ago. Well, at this point, she was already numbed at the thought of danger. She lived a life full of it even as a child that it didn't even affect her anymore.
"What time is it, by the way?" Jennie mumbled, fishing her phone out of her handbag. As soon as her phone lit up, her eyes went wide.
"It's already ten!" she gasped in horror; her mouth wide open. 'I'm dead.'
Her horror continuously increased as she saw multiple missed calls from her husband. Lisa would get off work at eight in the evening. Therefore, he had all the time in the world to worry about his wife's whereabouts.
"Gosh. I forgot to tell him I'll be late!" Jennie ground her teeth as she hissed, not considering Bear already notified Lisa that they would be late. Well, if only she stayed with Bear for a bit, she would've known Bear already told Lisa and that she looked like a panda right now.
"Gosh, what should I tell him?" she paced back and forth, typing a long and sweet text so Lisa wouldn't worry anymore. Much to her dismay, she didn't have any signal inside the elevator.
"Shit!" she cursed through her gritted teeth, only to wobble dramatically to the corner. "I'm dead this time for sure."
Jennie listlessly glanced up at the numbers above the door. When she noticed she was a few floors before the penthouse, she dragged her feet until she was standing in front of the shut door. The air around her was gloomy and dark, making her appear even more scary with her smudged makeup.
DING!
As soon as the lift reached the penthouse, Jennie glanced up, not noticing the figures standing outside. When the door was fully opened, Jennie faced the door only to see Lucas standing on the other side.
"Finally —" Lucas snapped his eyes and was about to go in when he saw a ghost inside. "Ahh!!!"
His scream made Jennie flinch, surprised at how wide Lucas's mouth stretched. "Ahhh!!"
