"Ugh..." Jennie winced the second she regained consciousness. Her eyes were still closed, but her face was crumpled, forcing her eyes to open.

'Where am I?' she wondered as the ceiling slowly came clearer, recognizing its unfamiliarity. 'Aw, aw. My side...'

Her eyes popped open as she realized she wasn't in the master's bedroom. She tried getting up on instinct, still a little confused, only to feel a hand gently press her shoulder down.

"Don't stand," Lisa advised with a soothing voice, making Jennie shift her attention to him. "You're in the hospital — you are safe now."

His voice was calm, and his eyes were soft as if he was relieved beyond words. Jennie furrowed her brows, still a little confused because of the medication in her system.

'Right...' she thought, mentally rocking her head. 'I stabbed myself.'

"How are you feeling?" Lisa moved to the edge of the bed, keeping his eyes on her. "Are you hurt anywhere? Or are you hungry? Thirsty, perhaps?"

Jennie shook her head, reaching for his hand. "How's Jevy?" she asked, wondering if Jevin already heard of what happened or if he was safe.

"He... is alright." Lisa flashed her a subtle smile. "I just finished talking to him and I explained you need time to rest."

"Did he see anything?" she threw her follow-up question almost immediately, causing his brows to elevate. "There's so much blood earlier, Lisa. I'm worried Jevy saw all of that."

Lisa's lips parted, but his voice was stuck in his throat. How could she worry about others when she was the one who got stabbed? But then again, Jennie was a mother. Before her own, she would put her child first.

Lisa didn't know what to feel about that, but he could say it wasn't that unpleasant.

"He is alright." He smiled reassuringly. "Dara stayed with him. So, don't worry about him. He's fine. Just focus on your recovery."

"I see." Jennie smiled and closed her eyes for a moment, relieved that Jevin was fine.

Jennie's only worry about her plan was not the fact that it might fail. She was certain it wouldn't because she made sure of that. However, she didn't want to traumatize Jevin. Jennie pledged to herself that she would only give Jevin good memories that would overwhelm the traumas the original Jennie gave to her son.

Seeing a crime scene was definitely not a wonderful memory to recall.

"You should rest some more." Jennie slowly reopened her eyes when Lisa's gentle baritone caressed her ears. "Don't think of anything else."

His smile slightly cracked the longer he stared at her. "I'm sorry."

"Sorry? For what?"

For letting her get that glass of water. He was sorry for not insisting on even accompanying her. He was sorry that she got hurt because of him and the Manoban Family. There were myriads of reasons he wanted to say sorry for not just for this incident, but many things since that night five years ago.

"For everything," he breathed out. "I am sorry for everything."

Jennie pressed her lips into a thin line, swallowing down the guilt that leap to her throat. She propped her elbows against the mattress, assisting herself to sit up.

"You should stay down — doctor's advice."

"It's fine," she refused, wincing at the slight pain on her side. "My wounds won't open up just by trying to sit up."

Lisa watched his wife sit up before him, sighing. "Jennie, don't be stubborn and –"

"Lisa." Jennie reached for his hand and looked into his eyes. "Don't blame yourself. It's not your fault."

Not his fault?

Lisa couldn't help but feel repulsed by her reassurance. How was it not his fault? Jennie had no idea what she was talking about, so she was saying this. She had no idea Andrea was a victim's family in a fire incident years ago and her actions tonight were all part of her revenge scheme against the Manoban Family.

This wasn't just an accident.

Andrea infiltrated the Manoban Family with ill intentions, and Jennie got hurt because of that.

Lisa wanted to argue and tell her everything, but he couldn't bring himself to. It terrified him. Selfish as it sounded, he was terrified she would leave him or go back to what she used to be if she knew this truth. If only he knew Jennie had already planned everything; the piece of glass under the shelf, the lousy locked wine cellar, the empty glass of water, and the mail sent to the police. If only he knew that everything that had happened was calculated from start to finish, he wouldn't feel so guilty about hiding Andrea's motives.

Not that Jennie needed to hear it from him. If anything, all she wanted was for them to move on and forget all of this. She didn't want to use more energy on Andrea than she already did.

"I wanted to hurt her," Lisa confessed under his breath, lowering his eyes. "I never felt so angry at someone I wanted to hurt them with my own hands. I thought of many ways to hurt that person using these hands, but I couldn't. That person stabbed my wife, but I can't even raise my hand. It's... pathetic."

"Lisa." Jennie caressed his knuckles with her thumb, lifting her head, and waited for him to look back at her. "No matter how angry you felt, you didn't hurt her. At least, not using these hands."

The corner of her lips curled up into a relieved smile. "It's not pathetic. If anything, I'm relieved. I won't forgive myself if you stained these beautiful hands for me. They're too precious. I'm glad you didn't get them dirty, no matter how enraged you were."

"I like the way you are and how you handle things. I like you better this way, so don't change," she continued, cupping his lean face affectionately. 'Leave the dirty work to me while you handle the rest. It's not balanced if both our hands are soiled.'

The rest of her words remained in her head, keeping her gentle front until Lisa's countenance softened.
