There were only two or three times Jane felt the original Jennie's heart. The first time was during the time Lisa brought up divorce; the second time was with Lucas in his car, and the third time was now. Each experience felt awful for the very reason those feelings... weren't Jane's.
Ironic. Jane wanted this life — she already claimed it as hers, and yet, she was reluctant to feel the original Jennie's deepest emotions and she knew exactly why.
"Director Guan!"
Jennie snapped back to the current lapse when Hanbin raised his voice to get the director's attention. Hanbin raised his hand a bit, smiling when Director Guan turned his head.
"Hanbin!" Director Guan then quickly noticed the person standing beside Hanbin. "Jennie?"
When Director Guan locked eyes with Jennie, his face brightened up. "It's really you! Oh, god! It's been ages!" he spread his arms wide open, advancing in Jennie and Hanbin's direction.
"It's also good to see you again, Director Guan." Jennie chuckled sweetly, returning the director's quick embrace.
"How are you, girl?" Director Guan let her go, only to hold her arms while sizing her up. "You look just as fantastic as you were five years ago."
"Director Guan, you're flattering me, but thank you. I am well even when I was away from the limelight, but I watched all your works for the past five years. They never disappoint." Jennie threw the original Jennie's interference with her heart at the back of her head, smiling at the director. "Thank you for letting me be a part of this project. When I first heard it from Senior Kim, I was so excited to watch it. But he generously offered me a role."
"Look at him, acting like the director." Director Guan playfully clicked his tongue, warranting laughter from Jennie and Hanbin. "I was also surprised when he mentioned he thought of the best person for this role, but I knew you will pull this off."
"Hopefully."
"Of course, you can, girl." Director Guan winked at her, releasing her hand. "Anyway, have you read the script?"
"Yes."
"Good! I am planning to shoot this scene first..." Director Guan pulled up the rolled script from his back pocket, standing beside Jennie to give her instructions.
As he showed Jennie which scene he wanted to take first and where she was in it, Jennie listened attentively. Meanwhile, Hanbin, who was with them, couldn't take his eyes off her.
'I'm glad she turned up,' he thought, thinking that Jennie might not come considering who her husband was. The thought of Lisa left a sour feeling in his heart, but he quickly flashed a smile when Director Guan talked to him.
"I was actually thinking that you and Hanbin will do this scene. Hanbin, come here quick."
Hanbin walked closer to listen to the director and how he imagined the scene. Both Jennie and Hanbin listened to his instruction attentively, getting immersed in the idea the director was telling them.
"Got it?" Director Guan showed a thumbs up, darting his eyes between the two.
"Got it." Hanbin nodded, smacking his lips as he pondered about the scene. "Actually, I think it's a good one. I'll just do the first few scenes and then we can jump to that."
"Yes. That's the plan. How about you, Jennie?" Director Guan and Hanbin shifted their attention to Jennie.
"Yes." Jennie sported a short smile, nodding. "It works fine with me since l have some time to internalize."
"Good!" Director Guan clapped in satisfaction before checking his wristwatch. "You guys return to your dressing room. Hanbin, we'll start in an hour. Be ready."
"Yes, Director Guan."
"Very well." Director Guan kept a wide smile, looking at Hanbin and then at Jennie. "I'll see you guys later. Nice to see you again, Jennie. I'm looking forward to your scene."
With that being said, Director Guan excused himself to help the staff before the filming. Meanwhile, Jennie and Hanbin stayed in their spot while watching Director Guan change his attitude, as he was now screaming like a roaring dragon.
"He never changed," Hanbin chuckled, still amused at how Director Guan could be the most understanding person to a terrifying one. He then glanced at Jennie. "Do you know which room you can use?"
"Hmm?"
"Are you okay?" he asked, furrowing his brows as Jennie seemed a little distracted while discussing the scene.
"Of course."
"Are you nervous?"
'Nope.' — was her instinctive answer, but kept her mouth shut.
"A bit." Jennie used his wrong assumption as an excuse. "This is the first movie I'll appear in after five years and somehow, Director Guan's expectation is a little overwhelming."
His smile grew warm and, without thinking, he patted her shoulder. "You have time. If you need help, just tell me. I'll see what I can do."
"That's very reassuring. Thank you." Jennie maintained her benign demeanor, glancing at his hand on her shoulder.
"Ah. Sorry."
"It's fine."
Hanbin held his hand on his back. "Anyway, should I help you go to your room? Did you bring a team with you?"
A team? Jennie quickly rummaged through the original Jennie's memory to understand his question.
'Ahh... a glam team.'
"I don't have a team. I'll just do my makeup and, well, ask for the makeup team in the production to do my back."
"I see. If you need help, I can lend you my staff. They already know you so —"
"Jennie?"
Just as Hanbin was offering what he could offer to Jennie to make her life more convenient, they heard Lea's voice from behind. As soon as Lea's voice caressed Jennie's ears, the life in her eyes returned. Both Jennie and Hanbin turned to Lea, only to see the utter shock plastered on the latter's face.
"What are you doing here?" Lea blurted out, darting her eyes between Jennie and Hanbin.
The corners of Jennie's lips stretched from ear to ear, jumping to Lea's side. Without thinking, Jennie suddenly hooked her arms around Lea's.
"Surprise~!" Jennie sweetly announced. "Senior Kim offered me a role in the project and I agreed. I didn't tell you because I want to surprise you. After all, it's always our dream to work on a project together."
Her eyes squinted happily as she added, "Are you happy, Lea?"
