"Oh, my god..." Lucas was almost in tears as he drove the vehicle to the racetrack. "I can't even hear anything."
His lips kept stretching until they reached his eyes, giggling the moment they reached the racetrack. He stepped on the pedal, ready to test how fast it could go, but then changed his mind.
"Why are you driving so slow?" asked Jennie from the passenger.
"Well, you're here." Lucas frowned. "Sister, why don't you get off first so I can test its limit?"
'Right.' Jennie recalled, knowing Lucas knew that Jennie was scared of these types of things. 'How considerate of him. I thought he would forget, but it seemed even though he has little to no pride and integrity, it was foolish to think so.'
"It's okay." Jennie smiled. "It's just us in the racetrack, so I won't be afraid we'll crash into someone."
His brows rose. "You sure?"
"Yes." She nodded.
"Alright." Lucas shrugged. "Just don't blame me if you felt a little sick."
With that being said, Lucas slowly sped up to build momentum. In no time, the vehicle they were in was speeding like a bolt of lightning in the racetrack, drifting as they pleased. As they did, Jennie could not help but smile in admiration. Although Lisa owned a few cars, this one was different.
If this vehicle wasn't special, Lucas wouldn't swoon about it as well.
Casting Lucas a side-eye, her smile stretched in satisfaction. He looked like a kid having to experience his dream. No wonder Lisa bought this car without a second hesitation as a surprise for his little brother. It just so happened Lucas had been misbehaving and wasn't being kind to his wife, Jennie. Hence, the second thoughts.
"This is sick! Woohoo!!" Lucas exclaimed, exhilarated by the adrenaline rushing through his veins. "Ugh... I love it!"
"Me too."
Lucas furrowed his brows as they slowed down after driving a few laps, turning his head to Jennie. There was no sign of fear or anything of the sort on her face. If anything, she looked... satisfied.
"Sister... since when did you like riding?" he asked as the vehicle halted, eyes on the passenger seat. "Weren't you afraid of high-speed vehicles?"
"I was, but I sort of found joy in it." Jennie grinned, slapping his chest with the back of her hand. "Let's go and finish the paperwork."
"Ouch!" Lucas hunched in when she slapped his chest with the back of her hand, holding the steering wheel until his forehead rested on it.
'How dramatic,' she thought before arching a brow, narrowing her eyes suspiciously. "Are you okay?"
"Ugh..." Lucas cast her a frown, complaining. "I told you not to touch people. Do you know your hand is too heavy for someone as delicate as me?"
Jennie just studied his expression. If she take his words at face value, she would think he was just being dramatic. Her slap was very light, after all. Without saying a word, Jennie unbuckled her seat and stepped out of the vehicle.
"Damn it..." Lucas snapped his tongue when she slammed the door closed. He rubbed his chest with gritted teeth, shaking his head mildly. "That hurt."
Lucas didn't think much about it as he unbuckled his seat, enduring the throbbing pain in his chest. Much to his dismay, as soon as he stepped out of the driver's seat, Jennie was already standing outside.
"Woah!" Lucas stepped back. "You're still here?"
Jennie was looking at him dead in the eyes as she said, "Let me see your body."
"What?" he gasped, covering his chest with his arms on instinct. "Sister, I am your brother-in-law! I don't think that's proper!"
"Come on. Don't make me strip you here."
"No!" he refused firmly, taking another step back until his back hit the side of the vehicle. "Sister, have you gone crazy? Why do you want to strip me here?! Are you insane?"
"Fine." Jennie marched toward him, which made him twist his body while he was yelling, "No, help me! My sister-in-law is crazy!"
Jennie didn't care as she slid the sleeve of his thick night robe down to his elbow. Her pupils dilated in horror upon seeing healing bruises on his arm.
Feeling that Jennie had just touched his arm, Lucas peeked at her. As soon as his eyes landed on her, all he saw was the blank expression plastered on her face.
"Huh?" Deep lines appeared in between his brows, gazing down. The moment he saw where Jennie was looking, surprise turned up on his face as he quickly snatched his arm away.
"What the hell?" he mumbled, lowering his sleeve to cover his arm. "Are you crazy? Why do you keep touching people without their permission —"
Lucas abruptly halted when Jennie suddenly reached for the hem of his shirt. She then swiftly pulled his shirt up, only to confirm her suspicion. His entire body was covered with bruises and from someone who had been gambling with her life in the underworld since birth, she knew these bruises weren't something he would get from an accident.
"What the — sister!" Lucas yelled as he frantically pulled down his shirt, almost terrified.
"Where..." Jennie breathed out as she slowly raised her unblinking eyes to him. "... who did that?"
"What?" his breath hitched for a moment. "What do you mean, who did this? I got into an accident, okay!? These are from the seatbelts!"
Her eyes flickered menacingly, making his heart race in panic.
"I swear this is from an accident! The safety belt saved me from the impact, but it was still bruised!" he repeated at the top of his lungs.
His jaw tightened, hissing at the sight of her. Her eyes were enough to tell him she wasn't buying this lie, and since she wouldn't believe him, a deep huff slipped past his mouth. Lucas pinched the bridge of his nose before he confessed.
"Fine, fine! It's some useless thugs, but don't tell my brother, alright?!" Lucas ran his hand through his hair, ruffling it in irritation. "I don't want to worry him since I'm partially at fault too."
