[I'm sorry, Lisa. I'm sorry for making you sad. I'm not too late, am I?]
How unfair.
Lisa reopened his eyes, unable to fall asleep as her words kept replaying in his mind. He turned his head, eyes falling on Jennie's back.
'After saying all that...' his train of thoughts trailed off, remembering how she suddenly changed the topic. Jennie didn't give him a moment to answer or process what she had said, bidding him goodnight, and then turning her back on him.
Jennie didn't move from then until she fell asleep. How easy for her to sleep while he couldn't sleep, bothered by the apology he didn't expect to come.
'So, you know... how to apologize, huh?' mixed emotions swirled in his eyes, still had no clear thought about what she said.
Lisa never thought of hearing her apologize, knowing he was also at fault at one point. He already accepted their relationship only had two routes; one was separation or they would destroy each other. But fixing what was already wrong in the first place? Do they have such energy?
As Lisa was deep in thought, Jennie suddenly turned around to face him. His brows rose as his entire body froze when she suddenly extended her arm, squeezing herself in him. A subtle smile turned up on her face as soon as she felt his warmth.
"So warm..." she murmured in her sleep, moving her body closer to him.
Little did she know, Lisa almost turned into a statue. He looked down at her, wide-eyed.
What was she doing?
If not for her deep breaths, he would think she was simply taking advantage of him. But it seemed Jennie was sleeping soundlessly, treating him like a pillow to hug.
'This woman...' Lisa clenched his teeth as he closed his eyes in distress. 'Was it wrong to make her sleep here?'
When Lisa reopened his eyes, there was a little bit of irritation in them. He wasn't specifically angry at Jennie, but he knew sleep wouldn't come to him soon. How could he sleep with this woman squeezing herself into him? There was enough space for at Least two more people, but she just decided to take up his entire space.
[Please tell me I'm not too late.]
Her previous remarks hovered over his mind again, snapping his eyes open. Lisa gazed down at her and sighed for the umpteenth time. He carefully relaxed his stiff body, trying to slip away from her arms. However, with just a slight attempt, her arms tugged him slightly. In the end, Lisa couldn't move and only let her hold on to him.
'Nevermind.' Another sigh slipped past his nostrils, only to get a whiff of her shampoo that smelled like his. 'It's not like we didn't hold each other in the past.'
Although it was a one-time thing with barely enough recollection of the details, that fact remains. They wouldn't have a son together if they didn't do it. This hug was too innocent compare to what they could be doing as husbands and wives.
'What am I thinking?' he frowned, getting rid of any malicious thoughts. 'Don't think about it anymore.'
Lisa counted in his mind, hoping he would fall asleep. It took him some time until he lost count and slowly succumbed to the darkness.

"Mhm." A moan slipped past Jennie's closed lips as her eyelashes fluttered ever so slowly. As soon as she opened her eyes, the first thing that graced her eyes was Lisa's exquisite facial features.
Divine.
Jennie blinked, thinking she was dreaming and was seeing her beautiful guardian angel. Only when Lisa's arm pulled her waist closer did her eyes pop open. Jennie instinctively held her breath, feeling his arm on her skin underneath her loose shirt.
'Did we... did we sleep like this?!' Jennie mentally gasped, looking at him as if she had seen a ghost. 'Really? Is this progress?'
Her lips parted open, her brain taking time to function. All she thought was after saying so much nonsense last night, she pretended to sleep. Jennie wasn't sleepy, but pretending ended up being a reality. She didn't even know how she fell asleep until now that she was awake. What made this even more strange was that Jennie — the current Jennie — had never slept so peacefully at night.
She almost forgot the last time she fell asleep so peacefully. Even when she woke up in this body, she couldn't remember sleeping so snugly. She would always wake up in between, especially if she hears the slightest noise. She was a light sleeper, after all.
Last night was different.
'Was it because of you?' she wondered, staring at his dashing sleeping face.
Just then, his eyes opened slowly, catching her looking at him curiously. The moment their eyes met; her brows rose as if she was caught red-handed.
"Go — good morning?" she stuttered, laughing awkwardly. "Did you sleep well?"
'Oddly well,' was his real answer, but Lisa just stared at her.
She was still here.
Or was she?
Lisa unconsciously caressed her waist, making her flinch slightly. His brows furrowed at the warmth and smoothness under his palm.
"Hihi..." Jennie giggled, biting her lips as if to hold her laughter. "Tick— tickles."
As soon as she pointed it out, Lisa retrieved his hand as if he was scalded. Only then did he realize where his hand was, and what sort of position he woke up to.
How did he end up hugging her?
Jennie cleared her throat as she repeated, "Good morning. Did you have a good sleep?"
"Not bad." His voice was hoarse, making him gulp as he languidly sat up. "You?"
"Strange as it may sound, but it's my first time sleeping so peacefully." Jennie happily sat up beside him, smiling from ear to ear. "Should I sleep here from now on? I didn't bother you last night, right?"
You did.
Lisa kept his thoughts to himself, closing his eyes again as he stretched his neck from one side to the other. When his body warmed up, he looked back at her. His lips parted but then closed them again. Lisa said nothing as he flung his legs out of the bed, sitting on the edge.
'Gosh...' Jennie pouted, staring at his back. 'Is he acting according to his morning routine?'
When Lisa stood, it pretty much confirmed her guess. Lisa didn't cast her a look as he marched toward the bathroom, only to stop when she spoke.
"Will you join me for breakfast?" she inquired, watching him glance over his shoulder. "Eating alone is lonely and I don't know what time you'll go home tonight — or if you can even go home. So, should we eat breakfast together?"
Lisa turned his head even more until he could see her. Her hair was still in a mess, wearing his shirt, and sitting on his bed. A sight he never thought he would ever see. But what almost took his breath away was the eagerness in her eyes. It was as though she would cry if he refused her request. Maybe he was wrong, but he doesn't take risks.
"Eight," he said. "I'll be home at eight."
